Mine, I guess like most, are shot. Deteriorated and falling apart. I've read bunches of posts about deleting them and putting speakers in the trunk, etc. However, I'm a tad nuerotic when it comes to keeping my sweetheart at least looking stock.
Can anyone recommend an affordable quality speaker that is a direct replacement, both size-wise and plug and play? I don't have a good ear, so I don't need the best, latest or greatest. Just something that will produce half-way decent sound. Bmw replacement speakers are just stupid expensive, it seems to me.
I have a set of rear subwoofers just refurbished to sell cheap.
$20 each
$80 for full set.
$90 shipped to FL

Have you tested them after the repair?
The monsoons are from a VW?
Yes. 1C0035411 g. IIRC they are in 2000-2005 vws. I pulled several yesterday from my local yard for 6.99 each.

Wow great subs. I used to drive a 2000 jetta and always loved the monsoon system!
These monsoon's are direct replacements?
No. You have to spend a few minutes with a chisel separating the speaker from the plastic frame.
Very much worth the effort.

Then for the two center speakers, you will need to make an exact sized hole for the magnets using a dremel like cutting tool.
Then remove the sponge from the middle of the subwoofer.

I almost feel like doing a few and selling them.
It sounds that good
How much for a rear deck with the monsoons mounted? Depending on the price I'd consider it...
"Let me tell you what Melba Toast is packin' right here, alright. We got 3:15 open differential with an M5 sway-bar outback, a 4.4 liter V-8 with Bosch sequential fuel injection, four cams, 32 valves, VANOS units using Beisan Systems seals, 10 to 1 pistons, a conservative 282 macht schnell horsepower, all planted to the earth with AC Schnitzer Type II Racing Wheels and Michelin PS2s at all four corners, an M5 rear sway-bar outback, and a Strong-Strut tower brace up front. We're talkin' some Deutschland muscle."
How about you send your sub-box to me, I send it back with the Monsoon speakers and you pay $100 plus shipping costs. ???

Getting a sub box from the junkyard and finding a shipping box are the two things I would least look forward to doing.
Okay, I'm in. PM me where you want t shipped.

these have worked for people in the past http://www.parts-express.com/peerles...ofer--264-1078. However, I plan on pairing them with their big brother http://www.parts-express.com/peerles...river--299-125 as I have found that the sub woofers fit in the outer speaker holes but the woofers fit in the inner holes. I will be reporting on how they sound soon.
I too need to replace or refurbish...conchiko, how did yours go?
I have another sub box and enough monsoon speakers to do another job.

I'd love to hear the monsoons but I went with the daytons for ease. I haven't heard them yet as I'm in the middle of a long project doing the struts and shocks and a few other items as well. I'll report back when I get them in.

Just did a Monsoon retrofit and shipped it off today.
Make sure you get the 4 Ohm Monsoon speakers and not the 2 Ohm speakers.
I got 8 and 4 of them were 2 ohm and I didn't realize until last night.
I have to swap them later.

Ugh. So they made those G speakers in two and four ohm? I hope the box I gave to 007008 doesn't have the twos. Gotta check the ones I have still at home.
