Soon as I get better glue I'll start messing with the panels again. I bought foam-less material recently. To deal with the compound door handle area I planned to try covering in a different direction. It is very hard to make up for lack of material needed in that section with fabric that has almost no stretch.
Has anyone played around with the idea of vacuum bagging it like with carbon fiber? I've always wondered if that would work.

I thought that would be the case after you showed me. My buddy just did his with the foam.... Not exactly what I'd call perfect... It's not terrible, but I'd lose my goddamn mind if it were in my car.

I had this thought too but with a vacuum former where a plastic negative mold is made. Bagging would add wrinkles, not eliminate them. There's also determining how much stretch is required from the material to get it to work.

Is it possible to buy a single yard of the rain fabric with no foam backing?

Yes but the no foam material is not currently in stock. In light of the information that no foam is better for door panels I'm working on getting some more no foam material to keep in stock for you guys.

Beginning the process. Thanks Brett, Louiee and Nicholas for the advice and ideas how to do it so far. Its going to be a bit of a process, but I think my OCD will prevail over my lack of experience and knowledge.

Does anyone know how to remove the insert from the doorcard? Just pop out the rivets? They seem permanently attached.

Be VERY careful with those. Everytime i tried to remove I broke the post. Tried cutting the metal rings but it seemed to put too much pressure. Once the studs are broken, they can not be replaced.

I had the cards out of the car. It's the leather insert I'm not sure how to remove. It has permanent plastic rivets into it. As MM said it appears it can not be reattached the same way as original. I might've screwed. Looking at picking up some spare door cards maybe to experiment. The whole plan may have gone to shit though from the looks of things.

There are many junk yards you can get the cards at in your area. I know there is a german specific yard in Gresham.

Thanks for the help, but I'm in the Canadian Vancouver. It still might be worth a trip to ORP with a side trip to the wrecker this summer.

FYI, on my 95 there were no rivets holding the door card insert to the door card, just glue.

Bump! Still have some in stock! Get it while you can...

FWIW, the coupon code doesn't seem to work 100% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, I will simply give a 10% partial refund through Paypal for any purchases this month if the coupon was not applied.

I'll buy a yard or two of M Rain with no backing once it's available.
