Hi there
Went to drive to work this morning, cranked it, turns over but no start, can't smell any fuel - could I assume the fuel pump has gone bad?
Car was running fine until this morning.
Is there an easy way to test this?
Any advice gratefully received, will need to go home this afternoon and try too sort it.
I know on my 540i I could hit the pump with a hammer and get it to start again when it failed?
Oh - cars got about 190k kms on 93 318i.
thanks
Nigel.
First of all I would try to listen to the fuel pump by jumping the pump relay pins with a (thick) wire. Take the rear seat off and try to listen. If there is any sound it probably is ok (P.S.: that not always indicates the fuel pump is ok as I learned last year). After that you might try to check fuel pressure at the fuel line. Relief the fuel hose cramp and you should see fuel spraying out (have a cloth covering it so you don't wash your face with gas). That's what I would do, but guys may come up with better ideas.
yep, fuel pump had had it.
tested for power to pump etc, all good. no noise from the pump at all.
