This is something I've been interested in for years.
I've been told that the N74 engines are substantially taller than the M70/73's though.
Do you have an N74 to measure?

    N74?

Good luck finding a donor car! You would need a LOT of electronics to go along with it...

Actually, finding a donor is much easier now than it was 5yrs ago.
The electronics do present quite a challenge, but it is the physical size question that is my main concern

I think you are correct, our bloodline is too low for the N74, but that is just one of the huge hurdles that would have to be overcome.

Well if we cant get a snooty Rolls to donate an organ, then next step, stuff a pair of B66's into a twin engine aircraft of your choice.

In any engine swap the cost of the engine is pretty much immaterial compared the effort and cost to do a proper conversion.

I think the only way is to convert it to a dry sump which may buy you a couple inches but will definitely solve the oil sump position issue. You'll also likely need to get rid of the hood insulation which will give you another inch.

Then there's the ibus and canbus messages nightmare to get the engine and gearbox to play nice without the abs,asc and god knows what other modules that goes with the N73 just to get it started.

Probably easier to use a aftermarket ecu and egs.

If I'm going to shell out that much to do it properly I'd rather go with the S85 V10 engine.

Not impossible, but it's not going to be cheap either.

Edit: originally wrote S80 engine. My bad.

Well how much harder could it be than to retrofit E39 M5 v8? That has already been done several times...

Anythings possible with enough money and time. I highly doubt its every been done, and i can assure you it wont be easy. Physical fit is only a fraction of the battle, sorting out all the electronics will be the largest one.

I had the same notion as the OP and when I suggested it to a friend here he said what others have said here about the electronics... I met a another fellow in CLT here and now friends, who is swapping a LSX engine/transmisson into an 840. Will be interesting to drive it when done! I am technically, time and dollar challenged so there is no way in hell I would attempt a swap like that...unless I won the lottery!
