OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG
Looks like we might get to play in a split timeline. As in, it looks like there might be a few missions before detonation.
I am so dang excited! It was literally the first thing I did when I woke up. I slept in just so could wake up after the countdown clock was over.
I honestly think that the family in the beginning is the character's family and you're playing as the descendent.

Looks interesting. Curious to see what they added to gameplay to keep it fresh.
Boston and surrounding area will be a good setting for this game. I loved fallout 3 but I hope this isn't too familiar a setting or i think the game could get "old" quick. Especially for the people that invested a lot of time into the previous games. However we now next to nothing about it so whatevs.
I'm also a bit apprehensive about Boston being the setting. Fallout 3 and New Vegas were so enjoyable partly because the locations were familiar. For someone who lives on the other side of the world, it was still awesome playing through locations that are so recognisable from TV and movies. The Washington Monument, White House, Vegas Strip etc are all locations that are familiar to people throughout the world. I'm not sure it will be the same with Boston.
It doesn't get the same attention in pop culture. Other than Harvard and MIT, I don't think I would recognise a single landmark. It looks like Fenway Park is going to be a key location, but to anyone who isn't American, Fenway park just isn't a big deal. I don't think I would recognise it if I saw a photo of it. I've heard the name a handful of times, but that is it. I just don't think I'm going to get the excitement of discovering new locations and going "oh cool, I know that place!".
Same. Loved FO3 because I was playing it while living in DC and, naturally, being overly critical of the stuff that wasn't 100% accurate (yet, full of praise when they got little details right).
Boston is a fine town, and all, but I don't think a whole hell of a lot of people, across the country, have actually been there. DC, yeah - recognizable and tourists aplenty. Vegas, yup - a destination for both coasts. Boston - not so much for midwesterners and those west of the Mississippi.
Think they would have been better off with Chicago or New York. Even Philadelphia would have been a better choice, I think. You need recognizable landmarks. Boston has several, but they are outdone in all categories by the other three cities mentioned.
We'll see. I'm hardly going to complain about a new FO game and we all know they'll use the engine to make a followup in a different location, anyway.
Australia could have been an awesome setting and would give the franchise a whole new feel.
Exactly. As someone who has never visited the US, I could probably pick out Boston if I was shown photos of various cities, but I certainly don't know any landmarks or what makes it unique. New York or even LA would have been fantastic locations. Plenty of recognisable landmarks and distinct environments for people from all around the world to enjoy.
I was thinking of where I would like to see a Fallout game set and and I think Australia could be awesome. With the long history of alliance between the US and Australia, there is plenty of workability for a story. Fallout games have always had an awesome, wry sense of humour and the developers could have a lot of fun with characters. It could also look beautiful. Imagine a wasteland set around Darling Harbour with the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House. You could have different factions fighting for control of the bridge as a critical supply route. MUTANT KANGAROOS AND KOALAS. They could really have a lot of fun.
The other place I thought would be great is Rome. Landmarks for days. Plenty of scope to make a beautiful looking game.

Never played 1 or 2, so I can't comment, but I do like the idea of adding more towns at locations which are distance-accurate, relative to each other, thus making vehicles all the more essential for travel.
One of my primary gripes about FO3 was the inaccurate map scale.
Without the limitations created by the need to cater to the console market, these games could be mind-blowingly expansive and detailed. There used to be a reason people would blow $2,000 building a machine to play a $50 game.

I think Boston will be an excellent setting for this game.
Just finished watching E3. Everything is customizable. You can make your own town, build homes and bases and establish trade routes and make badass weapons and fully. Customizable. Power armor. Every single thing in the game can be stripped down to the basics to scavenge parts to make something else. Wanna use a telescope as a sniper scope on a gun built out of pipe that rapid fires grenades? Go for it. Jet powered trash launcher? Done. Now you can decapitate someone with a teddy bear. Oh and btw the game DOES start the day the bombs drop. You start as the dad. And you are still playing as the dad 200 years later! You are the soul survivor of vault 111. And the special edition game comes with a real pip boy that you can put your phone in and wear and has a tag along app to go with the game. I'm very excite!
Sounds awesome! Gameplay looks very promising.
