ha. yes of course. i got a chip from him the day i bought the car lol. it is primarily an eBay modded car after all. 7k rpm rev limit, torque curve shifted a bit. can't speak to any HP/TQ increase necessarily but for the money it was just what i wanted lol.
that chip combined with the immobilizer bypass (i can't remember what BMW calls it. EWS or something) was the first thing i did to the car.
There'll be video for sure. I've got a GoPro, GeekPro(gopro knock off) and i'm sure my wife will get some video as well.

i'll be interested to see some actual gopro vs geekpro videos from someone who isn't paid off to do a biased review. that's the impression i got from most of the youtube comparison videos anyway

lol thats sick you have the same chip. in for pics/vids.
have you used the geekpro yet? how is it?
I have the GoPro Hero HD (the $120 entry level model) and I shoot in 720p60 for the smoother video. apples to apples, the gopro is obviously better in quality, and the geekpro doesn't have as wide of a FOV as the GoPro. (140° vs 160 i believe).
Looking at the price though, the GeekPro comes in at $50 cheaper and comes with a handful of accessories sooooo it kinda evens out. I have footage on both cameras from my 2nd event and the GoPro was obviously the better quality unit, but a true comparison wasn't really made since i used the GeekPro inside just so i could review my driving habits after the event (it confirmed how much of a baboon i am, fumbling around with the steering wheel like a 16 year old getting to 3rd base for the first time). I'll see if i can get some of the footage edited and uploaded just to show you guys.

an angle kit will help alot with the "fumbling". not specifically because of the extra angle, it's the extra steering speed that really helps. you might wanna consider trying out those $150 ebay special polish blocks (after all, this is supposed to be an ebay car, right? ) just to see how you like the extra steering speed. for me at least it helped alot

what kind of adjustments need to be made with those blocks? I was looking into them a while back but reading on the forum i got the feeling i'd hate them for daily driving.

what kind of adjustments do you mean? to driving style? probably none. the bump steer will be slightly worse and steering feedback will probably feel a bit weird due to the literal zero ackerman, but for $150 you really can't hate on em too hard

yeah it will, but any angle kit will need an alignment after installation. i got tired of getting mad at shops after paying $100 for an alignment and then having a crooked wheel, so i got the hang of aligning my cars with string, measuring tape and a carpenters' square + calculator. you'd be surprised as to how straight you can get the wheels with such simple tools

you should be fine then. maybe down the road buy one of these unicorn arms or something. can't hate on an angle kit for less than $500

Okay so.....fk this car.
Well really, just the rust i guess.
I went to remove the factory rear LCAs and replace them with camber arms. No one told me that my lower eccentric bolts would be rusted into the bushings and refuse to spin. 1/2" impact, 3' cheater bar, nothing. So i said screw it and put the nuts back on and decided to tackle my exhaust.
I picked up a set of ebay longtubes and was going to install them. 90 minutes later, i had the forward exhaust assembly off the factory manifolds and 3 busted bolts. Someone in their brilliant decision making had used an 18mm headed bolt (idk how big the actual bolt was, but it was force-threaded into both sections of exhaust) to connect one of the downpipes to the manifold. This one alone took around 30 minutes between soaking and heating to get it off. in the end, it snapped as well.
I did manage to get one thing completed. Installed my rear tie downs.
2015.05.01 rear tie downs by George, on Flickr
So rather than make a load of progress, all I managed to do in about 4 hours of work was install some rear tie down points, NOT change the rear arms and remove the lower exhaust section. This week i'll work on getting the manifolds off (which after some reading i'm seeing are a huge PITA) and throw the ebay headers on. I'll probably do a 2.5" vibrant resonator for a mid pipe and a cherry bomb or something cheap out back.
Rust on the body i can deal with. This rusted bolt crap has gotta go.
Only good thing i did was ditch my eBay "leather" steering wheel for an NRG 350mm wood model. I had purchased the ebay one to decide if i wanted something as small as 320mm. Figured why spend 100+ on a wheel only to realize i didn't like it. So i bought a 35 dollar 320mm "Leather stitched" wheel, drove it all winter and realized its way too small. So i replaced it with this:

It feels soooooo much better. Not just the quality, which is obvious considering the circumstances, but the size is much easier to manage. Less effort and the wheel throws so much easier now.
I also picked up a set of 215/45R17 Triangle TR968 tires for the front end and had them mounted on my style 73 wheels.
First event is May 14 and will be here before I know it. At this point i just want the exhaust "ready" (meaning if its just headers with turn downs so be it. OBD1 car so who cares). After this event, I'm going on vacation down to San Antonio for a week, then have a bunch of family stuff coming up, so i may skip the June event while i'm installing the camber arms and clutch.

you seem to have a pretty decent shop setup, do you have an air hammer? i haven't run into many stuck bolts that won't come loose with a little forceful convincing from one of those
as long as it's not harbor freight junk it should git-r-dun
for other rusty bolts i suggest buying an oxyacetylene rig. it might cost you $400-600 but you can weld with em, cut steel with em and get seized bolts/nuts hot enough that you never would've guessed that they were stuck in the first place. if you deal with alot of rusty/seized fasteners you will wonder how you ever got by without a torch

yeah we have an air hammer and torch. I just wasn't willing to put in that much effort on a sunday afternoon
i won't need an eccentric bolt with the camber arms so i planned on just replacing with a standard grade 8 from the hardware store. as such, it's not like i needed to worry about the bolt being ruined. The issue was if i didn't complete the job, i'd have to get creative with getting the car out of the garage so business can continue by 8am the next day. Rather than get halfway and have to stop, i elected to do the safe thing and just put it off until i have more time. Same reason my clutch and rack spacers aren't installed yet.

well the weekend has come and gone and despite being busy as hell, i managed to get the headers installed.
few things to note:
1. this job would have been much easier with the motor out. or at the very least, tilted towards the drivers side
2. little hands would have been nice, but i did not have any
3. f&$*% rust.
4. the engine support bracket is in the way if you leave the motor in, so it has to be unbloted and then doesn't want to bolt back in properly without a fight
5. my fingers, arms, and wrists have been twisted in ways that should be reserved only for contortionists
All that being said, the headers are installed, turn downs are clamped on to get me by for the event this weekend, and my ears are bleeding.

The cross brace wouldn't bolt back in, so i had to use a bunch of washers to space it. I'm thinking of just removing it for now and figuring something else out later. With the washers, it's MAYBE 2mm away from the header, and once the exhaust warms up and expands, you can hear a "ting ting ting" at idle from it vibrating against the brace.

The hell you still doing with AC? lol
Ever done headers in an E46? Step 1 is remove motor mount. Still an absolute whore to do >_<
Status: Someone put glitter in my oil. Wait. Why's all my oil outside the engine? What's that knocking?
Audio file or video file in the works for us lurkers?
you guys have lax rules haha. Yeah, that looks like a complete nightmare to do.
My E46 is my wife's DD. No headers for her lol.
And i'm keeping a/c in the car because i still DD the car sometimes. The open headers thing is just temporary to get the exhaust opened a bit more before this next event. I'm ordering a vibrant resonator and some sort of muffler. Will do a Y pipe into a single 2.5" exhaust. I'll throw an electric cutout ahead of the resonator for track things and just general obnoxiousness when driving on the street.
Yeah i'll get some video. Loud doesn't even begin to describe it. My radio is literally worthless now, even at idle.
But oh my GAWD does it sound amazing.

So is your German car. Straight pipes on non turbo (non v8) cars are usually a bad time, straight pipes dumping right under the passenger footwell... That's gonna get real old real quick. Can't wait for the post event write up.
Also for those of you considering a geekpro cam, I just got mine, and when I was looking at the box I realized that nowhere on it does it say geekpro, did a little research and found the same one for cheaper by a different distributor. Food for thought. http://m.gearbest.com/action-cameras...FYpffgodgNEGvg
Has anyone checked the image quality from one of those yet? The price is insane!
