    New BMW owner, introduction&questions

    Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum and I have just picked myself up my first ever BMW- a great big cheap German bus, which is the ever so rare 1998 750i V12 and my god she truly is a stunning car to look at and drive! Beige leather inside with blue piping and all the toys. Finished in a lovely metallic blue with 18" M sport alloys and nice little 'M' badges on the wings and wheels, and the interior. Dare I ask, is this really an M sport?

As far as I am aware they never made an 'M7', but seeing is the 750 was the top of the line with an enormous V12, I could give it my own 'M' twist, and make it into a version that I feel is worthy of carrying the M badge. This isn't a 316 that is trying to turn into an M3, this is a V12 beast that wants to be an M model, that Bmw never actually produced.

The last owner has tastefully added the facelift spec rear lights from (01-onwards) and fitted clear indicator lenses, so looks good for an R reg.

I am bringing this car to somewhat of the younger generation to appreciate and I have a lot in mind for her which will hopefully consist of the following to start with-

    - Full stainless steel straight through exhaust system(possibly quads), really enhance the V12 power plant.

-tinted fly eye lights on the front and back

-5% Limo tints at the rear

    - Black M sport alloys

    - chrome grill wrapped black

    - to replace the tape/dsc nav unit with the bigger screen from the facelift models.

These are the things that I want to do to her from the top of my head. I know the 750 is all about being a subtle and classy car that just wafts along.. But I want the V12 to be heard and to be known. If people can stick ridiculously loud exhausts on a Honda Civic, why can't I on my near enough 6 litre power plant? For any car enthusiast, it will be a fantastically aggressive noise that would turn heads everywhere she goes.

As I said, this is my first ever BMW, I have sort of cheated my way up the good chain and purchased one of the biggest beamers around.

Here is a little about my recent car history-

2003 Jaguar X-type 3.0 SE AWD manual- gun metal grey fitted with XK8 wheels, a full stainless steel proflow quad exhaust system and top&bottom mesh grills. Sounded fantastic and she is one of a kind(still got her)

1998 Jaguar XJ8 4.0 sovereign Auto- always wanted to see what these big boats were like, was not disappointed she was very quick in sport mode and ridiculously smooth. 11MPG though, (since sold).

2002 Jaguar S type 3.0 sport manual. She was the sport spec with full red leather, honestly the most stunning car inside that I think I will ever own. Very high spec, sporty feel and as you can imagine, pretty fast. (Since sold)

1990 Nissan 300ZX fairlady Z32 (twin turbo manual)- in my opinion one of the best looking cars ever made in the 90's. She is a jap import, imported in 99, very very fast & very tail happy.(still got her, undergoing work)

So as you can tell I am into my big guzzlers at my younger age, I have never driven anything under a 3 litre. Not because I am privileged, but because the fact they are cheaper than the smaller engined cars, and I will happily pay the extra fuel costs for that smell of petrol and smile on my face.

Does anyone know what this 750 would have cost when new? I reckon about £100K of today's money, very top spec executive machine.

Also, how do I set up the in car TV? Mines has no signal as it is just static going through the channels, do I need to install something else into the car for it to work or just tune it?

I was a member of the jaguar forum which had lots of great guys and great advice. I am sure this forum will be exactly the same!

If it is a fairly standard 750i it was around 100K but if it has rare individual options it could have run much higher.

How much boost you pushing on your fairlady? Those are very fun cars.

    Welcome to the forum.
Lot's of great people here with a lot of knowlegde to share.
I recently did a thread on build numbers for the 98-01 750i. http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh...ilt-after-1998
Have a read and see if your vin is within the numbers listed. If it's outside what we have listed there I'd really appreciate if you'd send me a pm.
Your right. They never made a M7 though you could order from the factory M wheels and the M-sport steering wheel.
If you go to http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html and check your build sheet you'll see what your car came with from the factory. It'll also give you your build date.
    Enjoy your new ride.

    3 years too late?

Well guys what can I say, after making this short introduction 3 years ago and then vanishing off into the night with my V12 E38.. I have now returned to the form for the first time since 2015 as a fully fledged bm nut job with a fleet of slightly broken 90’s flagship bm’s full to the brim with problems ready for you all to pour your knowgdge at! Including 3 E38’s, 2 E39’s and an E46 left at my disposal.. after having a clearout of all my old broken cruise liners from a by gone era.

After 3 long years, here is the photos of my 98’ 750i.
I picked this thing up for £800 and I simply could not fathom how special & rare of an E38 this was. One owner from new, Indivudual spec with the pipped nappa interior and matching blue leather dash, the ‘i’ model and not the ‘il’, M parrells...

Looking back, selling this car was the worst decision of my life. I think that decision became all so apparent when I was looking at these photos just now, with my 3 years experience with various E38/9’s.. and coming to terms with the fact that she was a SWB- A SHORT FRICKIN WHEEL BASE 750!

I am hoping for the love of god someone has a look at these photos and tells me that she was not a short wheel base! I am eager to learn as much as possible about my old 750i, after years of painstakingly looking for another, I have settled with a black 95’ 740i and a 97’ 728i with an LPG conversion. You can see I’m building around this hole in my heart the 750 left!

Anway guys, I’m sure I will become very familiar with you all down the line.

    Until next time brothers.
