I just called BMW at 800-525-7417. Based on the VIN my 2003 525i Touring is not on the recall list. Mfg date is 10/16/2002. I have the 3 spoke leather steering wheel (code S710A).
The rep indicated that the recall notices will go out in July based on VINs and active DMV registrations.

I got my letter 2 weeks ago. I have not made an appointment yet though.
WooHoo! Looks like I narrowly escaped this one thanks to a production date of 1/17/2002 on my '02 540iT - ~42 days prior to the March 1st 2002-and-later dates for the '02 and '03 540iT's affected. No letter for me. It is now August.

Anyone else get theirs replaced yet? I'm still waiting for a call that they are in stock over a year later.
I had my '03 540iT airbag replaced week before last. I made an appointment and they ordered the bag. Took a week to get in and 2 hours to replace. All free of course.
Just my luck...I just bought a 2003 M-sport 525it and the dealer didn't even tell me there was an open recall on it! I called 3 dealers and they all told me the parts were not in stock yet.
Sooo, I did a little research. Then I took the car to my local BMW Dealer and dropped my car off. I told them thanks for the rental car and call me when the recall notice is addressed. They tried to get me to drive the car until the parts came in. Little did they anticipate that I knew they MUST provide a replacement vehicle when asked to do so with an open recall for a major safety item. So, guess who has been using their 528i for a month now and counting? I am going to drive that damn thing until they fix mine.
Well after bumping this thread within 4 days I got my second letter that the airbag is available at the dealer. I hope to get it done soon.
Just got my letter today. Replacement parts are available. All I have to do is get it in to the dealer....about 45 min away.
run your vin thru the dealer if your car is affected it will be attached to the vehicle history
I got ours replaced today. It only took about an hour.
I received my first notification from BMW NA a year ago. Got another letter a month ago, set up the appointment and I'm all set. The new, clean cover on the steering wheel is a nice bonus.
