Great news, because that's what I am building. M73 bottom end, M70 heads with Schrick cams.

Can I order the chips from you now?

The cams are probably the most expensive single item here. Maybe we can do a group buy?

I can check with Schrick if they're willing to give a discount.
But I guess we need at least ten sets. I'm in for two, maybe three sets.

Those cams do not fit the M73 cylinder heads. You need the M70 heads.

Wokke, not so long ago, after wondering around the forum I've seen a chart you posted with M70 M73 S70 and Schrick Camshaft Specification.. I tried to find it again, but no luck..

... would you be able to post it again? please!!
    I would really appreciate that!

Is there that much difference in the bottom end of an M73 to a M70? I realize the M73 has higher compression than an M70, but couldn't you just buy 10.5:1 compression pistons for an M70 and get the same result?

I'm thinking we could do 2 or 3 sets here in SoCal, anyone else? Do we need all the lifters, springs and other goodies they offer?

Is there any markings on camshafts if it's schirck!?
I only own my 8 for a year, don't know if previous owner did anything to her.

There are markings on schrick cams you would be able to easily see it, its in between the lobes I believe. But chances of someone installing these cams is slim to none.

You can spend exponential amount on the top end. Just keep in mind, cams + a good valve job will already run you $2500 easily. So you have to think of what is your over all budget for this engine.
In my opinion you have to really control your budget because if it starts to creep up into supercharger territory then it's pointless....IMO

I totally agree. I know that sometimes performance cams can be too much for oem equipment. I didn't know if this was the case with schrick. What is the consensus about just placing these in existing stock heads without rebuilding them?

Wolf - I am going to pull together a list of specific workarounds that are required from all these posts. But out of curiosity, do you have an approximate number of hours you would ballpark for a guy that has only done a top-end on an M70?

no I can't because I do so much more work which is not directly related to the upgrade like cleaning and media-blasting parts, fixing issues I ALWAYS find while working on the cars and alike.
In my calculation I have 100 hours but this is for sure not enough.

As I was looking, I noticed that designation as well. What is the difference? And can they be used?

Yes. You just can't use the water pump and one of the lower timing covers. But both parts should be available from the old M70 anyways so no big drama.
