Well guys think I’ve sorted it, decided to trawl through the wiring diagrams and checked all the wires on the steering sensor and there was a bad ground, shorted it to ground and all lights out yay just need to find ground point X492 now.

Was working on a 2007 Z4 M54B30 engine yesterday. Couldn't find a E85/E86 section in INPA. Finally found a model that covered the M45 DME/M54B30 combination needed to completed the engine work.

There is more work to be done on the ABS. Is there a separate E85/E86 section or are they equivalent to another model?

Using the standard INPA install as per post 1 with your modified start menu function keys.

Edited the INPA.config file today to swap in the E85/86 section in place of one of the Mini's. The lead got pins 7-8 soldered and the programming changes to enable connection to later model BMW's. All set now for working on Z4's.

Thank you for the excellent support documents in Post 1.

I'm going to spend some time getting set up with these tools this year. The M5 is getting old and needs some work, so these tools should help.

I was googling around and reading other forums, and as of the time of me writing this, I haven't searched here yet, but is ISTA-D the newer preferred tool? Has anyone started a thread on how to set this up for our cars/eXX series cars?

    Happy New Year All!

ISTA - D is the dealer's program. It uses all the INPA/EDIABAS protocols in a pretty graphics user interface.
It's a commercial paid program or through rental service, so it can't really be posted here.

Abel, I can confirm that INPA and other software works fine on my MacBook with macOS and virtual Windows images (Win7, WinXP) through VirtualBox software. Maybe you want to update first post with that info. (Havn't tried your packages, but others work well.)

When you replaced it last time, did you do the calibration procedure (described somewhere in this thread)?

If yes, you can do the calibration again, which will make it work for a while... But eventually it fails again. Mine did.

I doubt it's water. My sensor was dry and it just lost calibration again and again.
Something must be failing inside it.

Thanks for the reply, I didn't replace it in the end I just left it inside in the warm and it then started reading ok, so maybe it has failed but last time it was the left hand side that was full scale but this time its on the right (dsc reading from before attached)

    Cheers

@328 Power 04: thx for the awesome step-by-step guidline (INPA/EIDIABAS ...); using this tool on an old IBM T61 laptop with Win10 and Xp-emulation mode - works fine for my Z3 Coupe FVL with ODB1-Adapter connected to USB :-)

Q: I suspected that the mileage of the speedometer does not correspond to the actual mileage - a look into the central computer of BMW brought me to that! With INPA, I can only read the total distance in the instrument cluster. In the TIS I had found something according to which an "error 01" indicates manipulation - and this error is also indicated with me.... theoretically the EEPROM could probably be "defective" - right?
Is it possible to read out the total mileage at any other place?
I have linked the current printout from INPA - aren't the far too high (?) values for SIA and the inspection intervals or the missing production date of the vehicle very strange?

This is on the 99 Coupe?

The only places that km are stored are in the Kombi and in the Kombi coding plug.
Unfortunately it's very easy to change the km in the Kombi, and not impossible to change in coding plug too.
In Europe, it seems everyone is changing the km... so everyone is buying a car with more than advertised. There are businesses dedicated only to 'mileage correction'.

There isn't an easy way to read the mileage from coding plug, but if the tamper dot light is on, then there is a mismatch between kombi and coding plug.

    - - - Updated - - -

At the bottom half of this page http://www.bimmerinfo.com/E36_OBC_tricks.htm
    are some KOMBI test menus.

If you run test function 9 on KOMBI, it will sync KOMBI and coding plug eeproms to highest recorded.

Also, the cold will sometimes throw eeprom errors on these models' kombi.

Thx for answering ... and Yes - it´s on the 99 Coupe.
What do you mean with (Kombi) "coding plug" - the ignition keys?
Btw - guess INPA told me that in sum 5 keys would be "activated and used"...sounds like the two i own would not be saved the right mileage :-/
Could you submit a picture/example of the "tamper dot light" please?

Maybe i try to run function 9 on KOMBI to syn with coding plug EEPROMs - but can I be sure that the true mileage is stored here?

The coding plug is a physical plug in the back of the kombi, it contains an additional eeprom for security.
It can be used to transfer instruments data.

The keys do not store km.

I went through your installation instruction on my Windows 10 Op system on a 64 bit machine. I plugged the USB OBD connector into my car (18 pin), turned the key to position 2, and clicking on the E36 button gives me no information about the status of the engine - nothing happens when I click on any other buttons either. The INFO button gives this output:

    INPA Info Screen Capture.jpg

The question marks after "INI Path," "Ecu path," and "Interface" imply to me that something went wrong with the installation. Do you have any hints on how to fix this?

There's nothing wrong so far. Click on E36 and choose MS41.1 for your M52/S52 engine (double click), and see if it logs into your DME. Then go to error menu.

Follow the pdf on how to clear an error for ideas.

That seems to have worked. Why MS41.1? Why is there nothing that looks like it references my S52 engine?

S52 is a slightly hopped up M52 engine, that is ran by the MS41.1 DME.

First, thanks for taking the time and effort to do the DIY and to keep it up to date for years! I'm installing INPA in a friends laptop and came across you're thread. I especially appreciate that you're DIY instructions and install process are definitely more streamlined and convenient than others I've read when installing on my own laptop.

    (Windows 10 32bit, 2008 E82 135i)
Second. I followed the instructions and INPA works and can read from the DME, but when I try and check the airbag module I get the "sys-0012 IDENTIFICATION ERROR". Tried to search on forums and google but can't get a clear answer. Any thoughts?

Are you using a K+DCAN cable with pins 7&8 UN-bridged? (This is the correct specific setup for this car)
