Resurfacing my issue here -- I'm unable to use the under the hood port to get anything whatsoever. I have this cable (which the toggle switch), and an adapter. It works in the cabin (though I keep getting a "version mismatch" warning, but it works after that). Nothing works under the hood. Any ideas on what I can try?

I am really struggling with coding my car. I have inpa, ads tool, etc. All set up. When I try to access my car via inpa I can see the ignition is on, etc. So I select the car, then engine, then click M62 but then I keep getting this error ‘apicheckjobstatus: error #95 sys-0005: object file not found api job error or no such result!

Can anyone advise me what I am missing?

I can't get passed the first step. It asks for a password.

This install is not password protected. Your Windows administrator account may have a password for administrator rights. That's something else not related to this at all. That would be your computer settings, or if it's a work laptop, then it's your work policy.

That's what I was thinking too. I checked the admin account and it didn't have a password. I added one and tried running PathEditor again but it again asked for a PW. I'll keep trying. Thanks

Installed on Windows 10 'puter, had to run compatibility mode for a couple of the install steps.
One thing I noticed when I started INPA was that there was no selection for E85/E86. They cover everything on both sides, E83, E87 (the 1er kind of surrounds the Z4 for chassis numbers) but no E85. I'll have to hook it up to see if IDs the car.

There is an option to look for other chassis, and you can also communicate to the modules directly by simply choosing the right module from a chassis that does have said module. E46's will share most ...if not all, modules with the Z4

It's easy-ish to change to have E85 on the menus, but you have to edit the INPA.ini file inside the INPA directory. (c:\EC-APPS\INPA\CFGDAT) and then edit one of those to say Sgbd_e85 instead of whatever it is.. and edit the name to whatever you want to call it.

Thanks, INPA communicates fine with the car - now it can know it by name.

I have successfully downloaded INPA via the link and instructions provided in the OP. I can access all modules on my '97 328is except for ABS. I have been researching this for over a week now, and can't seem to find a solution. When I try to access the ABS module I receive the following message: IFH-0006: COMMAND NOT ACCEPTED. I see other non-M users are accessing this module via USB to 20-pin without ADS, so I'm assuming ADS isn't required in my case?

If your car is equipped with ABS/ASC+T then that specific module is ADS.

I believe all 1997 328is had the ASC. The 1996 had it optional

    Hi bimmer friends.

I do struggle with running INPA. Installation was without any problems. I always (for each carline) get the following error once i select next step:

    1.JPG

    2.JPG

    3.JPG

Some other user in this thread seems to had similar problem but the solution is not clear for me yet.

    My system:

    5.JPG

I did not change any value in the obd.ini or other file. (it is still in com1)

    4.JPG

    I use a K+DCAN USB interface with switch (pin7+8)

    Does anyone know a solution?

I would try to see if you can connect to airbag module or ews (via 20-pin)? Those are both k-line modules for E36 and should work. If those don't work, then possibly your cable is bad.

Obviously the cable does not work (although it is new). I rechecked with a cable from a friend and have no issue with that one.

Following driver was installed automatically with my cable:

    1.JPG

version 2.4.6.0 - With that it do not work.

Following driver was installed automatically with my cable of my friend:

    2.JPG

version 2.12.28.0 - No issue with that cable and driver.

    Afterwards i ordered a new 2nd cable.

Following driver was installed automatically with my 2nd cable:

    1.JPG

version 2.4.6.0 - All works as it should.

Abel, wonderful documentation and kudos to keeping active on this thread for years. Thank you.

I'm coming from the MINI boards and I hate for my first post to be a troubleshooting one, but wanted to share the remedy to a few errors I was getting when running obdsetup.exe

    Steps I tried:
    - Followed post #1 and the instruction PDF to the letter.
    - Deleted and reinstalled the entire tools suite and data set.
    - 10x verified my COM values and environmental variables. Not sure what else could have gone wrong, but here I was.
Note: INPA does initiate just fine.

My last resort was to manually edit the registry values to match.
In order to do that open the Registry Editor program (REGEDIT)
    and navigate to "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlS et\Services\Serial"

Hope this helps someone else who runs into the same issues.
    Thanks again, Abel.

Did you double click on the included registry file? It adds in the correct settings automatically.

Yes thank you for the reminder on giving risky advise. I edited the above post.

Yes, that registry file *seemed* to run just fine, opening regedit and displaying the appropriate warning dialog. However obdsetup.exe returned the same values and errors after running it. Maybe my registry file was corrupt in some way. I didn't try to re-download the package, which may have solved the issue without manual edits.

And here I am 5 years later back at it. I swapped my brake master cylinder and front calipers so I need to cycle the ABS module to get everything bled well. I loaned out my 20-pin to TinyADS module out last year and I'm in the process of trying to get it back. in the meantime, is there anything I can do with a USB-to-OBD converter (picture attached)?

I have the OBD half of an OBD-to-20-pin adapter that I could hotwire into the 20 pin port if I had the pinout.

Or do I just need to be patient?

ABS in the 97 M3 is the ASC+T version, right?

That's ADS only (L-line). It will not work with the USB inpa k-dcan cable.

Hi, I'm back again, hat in hand and asking for advice. Fully warmed up and run for 20 miles, I'm seeing the following and wondering what to make of it on my M44:

    adapt.png

That last value, multiplicative at +6.00 bothers me, but perhaps I'm worrying for nothing. Just to review other things I've done and readings:

    1. Smoothness across all cylinders is even at 60-70.
    2. Fuel pressure regulator: replaced and pressure checked.
    3. Rebuilt injectors installed (and I noted a small jump in multiplicative last fall when I put them in).
    4. Big change since I put the car up for maintenance at the start of the winter back in November. At the time, the multiplicative was reading about +1 to +2
    5. Vacuum leaks: All vac hoses are new, intake manifold gasket and valve cover gasket new. The rebuilt DISA sprung a vacuum leak at the small check valve o-ring when I brought it out of storage. I epoxy-ed it so I don't think it's an issue. If all else fails, I'll bring it in for a smoke test at my local INDY, but wouldn't a vacuum leak show on the additive adaptation?
    6. At 94k miles, I figure it may be time to change the O2 sensor although I've read here that it's a myth and they can last much longer.
    7. MAF replaced with a Beckley, I have the OEM unit and could change it back.
    8. Camshaft position sensor OEM (old) as are the other sensors.

I found TIMMs write-up and explanation on adaptations, but haven't found too much else on interpretation - do you know of any others?

Does the TIS have anything on this, I couldn't find it?

Thanks in advance for your help. And perhaps I'm worrying about nothing again as I do that frequently. The car starts quickly, runs fine and seems to have normal fuel consumption.
