Got some more pics today for ya!

So it's glossy, but chrome. It's just, black . . chrome! I love it.

Also glossy, I got'm to respray my 95's and they look incredible - I was going to just leave them as spares.

BTW that's the Chinese one I bought. . . how could they even sell it? They offered a refund and when I accepted, they said, "We will refund $10 instead or just ship replacement" so . . I have replacements in the mail - what good they'll do.

    CAR IS FINISHED!

Well finished at the body shop haha.

Paid him the final $1000 (3000 in total) and I'm going to head in tomorrow and drive it home. Hopefully I bled the brakes well enough before I delivered it hah. He's going to lend me his dealer plate so I can drive it home, and then drive it to get e-tested and exhaust work done over the next week or so. Great guys at Alliston Collision

Also got my tires mounted today, it was scary stuff leaving the rims and tires out front yesterday as I drove away:

    716.jpg

But sure enough I got the call tonight that they were ready. Excellent too as I was right next door at the body shop checking out the E38. I always buy "used" tires, why pay $650 a tire when you can get virtually the same tread for $80-90 as seen here:

    718.jpg

What I find incredible is how THIN the sidewalls are with 20" wheels (keeping the 27" overall wheel diameter, even though I'm at 26.75") check it out - pay no attention to the tire mounting mess of the tires right now:

    719.jpg

All mounted and balanced with the bluetooth tpms sensors, and opened the app to see:

    tpms1.jpg

Went to drop off everything for the car to be on the road - rear lights, side markers, fogs, headlights, rear view mirror etc.. but forgot the mirror glass for the side mirrors!! Haha doh. So yeah, driving'r home tomorrow so long as the brakes are good! It'll be the first time the car has been driven with the rotors/pads after I installed them 2 years ago. Wish me luck!

    - - - Updated - - -

Oh and also . . . added some ALPINA center caps to the ol Style 95's, the Alpina logo looks incredible with the blue on the car! I've decided I am 100% putting an Alpina badge on the hood, it suits it perfectly. I know I know it's no Alpina, but it's better than an M-badge and besides my front lip says Alpina anyway. Ignore all the paint on the tire, that's left over from my days of doing body work/paint haha. Comes off with a brush anyway. Photo taken at night so it's rather crap quality. So excited to get this car hoooooome!

San Diego! And yeah Alliston Ontario haha! That place has changed SO MUCH the past few years. A Walmart now, two McDonald's, about 10,000 new homes, it's amazing. I'm out in Violet Hill 15 minutes West! Crazy

OH and they now have Master Mechanic and Alliston Collision, the best of both businesses I've ever come across AND they're next door to each other hah.

Yeah I think it's Alliston Collision that my dad has used for some work on his vintage cars. We used Adjala Auto previously and they took for friggin EVER to get stuff done.

I've never used anyone around here before for anything, I've always - as per this thread - been a very I DO IT NOBODY ELSE DOES kinda guy. This was the exception. UNTIL today! Turns out the guy they hire to do the cut&polish is a retarded blind guy. Pardon my english, but I'm rather pissed. There are more sun scratches in the paint then my 10 year old Pontiac G6! He obliterated the paint. Fortunately I can fix it all here myself, but I'd have preferred that he hadn't done it in the first place. The shop owner is ticked off and has offered to take care of me, so we'll see.

Point is, SHE'S HOME! Asleep in the garage right now. Got there, started it up and it ran HORRIBLY, felt/sounded like 3 cylinders firing. Turns out it was on empty, EMPTY! Got fuel in it, annnnd battery was dead. EUGH, got that charged and hit the road. My interior is in pieces, so no seat belt, no e-brake release, nothing - was an exciting drive home. First time driving the car in over two and a half years, wow! I forgot how much throttle I have to press to make'r go, I'm used to the 300s that you just press 10% and it's basically the same as flooring it, peppy is exciting for only so long.

    ANYWAY:

    723.jpg

That's the lot outfront, and that rat rod is being sold for $28k! My body guy is using that to buy a Viper, and put a diesel in it! He's that kinda guy. I don't mind ONLY because I'm telling him that I'm taking that engine and will get me a V10 E38! . . . pipe dreams, but hey I mean, could work!? Enough of that
Parked outside as I walked up, again you can see the tires have all sorts of over spray from when I was messing around with it in my garage. Car looks great though, especially since up close under bright light, that clear coat is suffering.
    724.jpg

Forgot just how long she was! Thought this made for a cool picture:
    721.jpg

Not quite the effect I was going for, but that COLOUR:
    720.jpg

And before I put'r to sleep for the night, I took a quick shot - exhaust tips are just placed in there again, so they're pointing upward. They will not be pointing upward when installed. Also the black rounded trim is not on the diffuser fins so it looks rough. Point is, I HAVE MY BABY BACK AND SHE PURRRRDY!

Thanks dude, and man is she ever starting to look better! Been hitting the "rough" spots with the DA and some rubbing compound, and wow does it bring it out brilliant!

Mounted the wheels today, DEFINITELY need spacers for the Style 168s otherwise the wheel/tire hits the strut. I bought 25mm hub centric bolt on spacers from eBay from a company in the 'States and they're fantastic quality.

    Here's how they sit:

    726.jpg

Pay no attention to this wheel gap, rear end was jacked up:
    728.jpg

Here's the spacer, ain't she purdy?
    727.jpg

And finally some paint again, mind you I managed to focus on the one spot that I hadn't wiped away the rubbing compound soooooo yeah ignore that too

    Thanks!

Colour is, Mercedes' Brilliant Blue Metallic. Code: 896

I researched every single blue paint you can find on a car. After going through them all, nothing beat 896 for what I wanted.

My Mercedes Blue BMW E38 gah!

Thanks, I've still got quite a bit to do:

    Carpet
    Seats
    360 Camera Install
Full cut & polish & wax
    Brake Bleed
    Tidy up audio wiring throughout
Install PDC system again (although with the 360 system I just may skip it)
    Reupholster A/B/C pillars

    Probably other stuff

Jamos, any chance you can throw a picture up of behind the headunit?
Doing the same conversion on mine and i was wondering if behind your stock radio you had a plastic "wall" box thing.
Wondering if it will interfere with the new radio.
    Thank you

Haha thanks for posting in here

Here's the ONE picture I have of what is behind our DSP radios - complete with mouse-home-bits.

    730.jpg

What you see there is the bottom "wall" that you mention, but above it is plenty of room for a SINGLE DIN as long as it's the top 50% and slightly off to the left, just the same position as the factory tapedeck/radio position. Behind the DSP screen are some servos it looks like, and in order to make my radio fit I had to do this:

    012.jpg

I ripped out the DVD player (disconnected one cable, and undid some screws) and remounted the box over to our left. Once THAT was done I had to come up with a way to mount the whole thing to the car, so:

    006.jpg

Mounted some angle bar - aluminum, easy to work with, but still strong - to the back of the frame of the head unit, then mounted that aluminum to the TOP of the bar that sits above the HVAC unit. THEN at the top of the unit, I used the NAV FRAME bezel top portion, and simply mounted it to the top of the head unit, and then using the factory holes in the nav frame, mounted it to the car. It's SOLID in there.

I have no idea why I don't have more pictures than this, so when I'm out in the garage later I'll try to get some better pics for ya

I still have a photobucket account until next April I think, BUT currently I just add photos to the forum itself! When you click the image icon here, just click "upload from computer" and it saves it direct to the forum =)

I used to always click "get image from url, and store locally on forum" so that the links would never die

USED to use imageshack until THEY got greedy and good ol' photobucket was there to save the day, and now they've gone mad too.

Also, didn't manage to get any other pictures of the interior today I'm sorry been so wrapped up doing other things on the car I actually totally forgot!

oh right on. yea i knew you could save images to the forum, but my previous threads had alooooot of pictures and i remember there being a small number of pictures allowed to be uploaded on a single post.
not to worry. i was curious if behind your unit looked the same as mine. was wondering if the radio would fit.
actually just got the confirmation email today that it is being shipped

Wait looking at your signature - did you lower and paint that car or buy it like that? I remember the build thread for it while I was working on mine! Is that you?

    - - - Updated - - -

Haha it is! It's BECAUSE OF YOU THAT I STARTED SANDING MY DAMN CAR YOU JERK! hahahaha

That's hilarious, I remember looking to buy that car before I got mine and then when you started working on it I remember thinking, "heh.. small world!"

Glad to see you're still around, I didn't connect the dots until just now seeing your signature! *cheers man

MY PLAN has been to get the car out to get exhaust done today - cats installed again, and tips mounted - but I didn't make it out. I was up until 4:30am working on it after working all day on it, then up at 9:30 this morning back at it and just came in at 4pm. Long coupla days, annnd still need to do a bunch. HOWEVER I have done quite a bit:

    Some pictures from today:

The proper ride height with these wheels now that I've moved the car forward/backward.
    736.jpg

Got the diffuser BOLTED on now, two M8 bolts through the spare tire well, treated and rocker gaurded. It's solid now! Just gotta get some EXHAUST tips going - was headed out this morning but... well I'm uploading this at 4:30 and haven't left.

    735.jpg

And yes yes DIRTY AND missing a rubber trim on the top of the bumper and no light slats installed (forgot until I saw this picture!) but blamo:
    737.jpg

First roll out on the driveway with the new shoes:

I have some shots of me pulling in and out of the garage and a bit of a roll by. Can't wait to get these other videos off the phone.

Great progress! Car looks awesome. Im still not a huge fan of the gaudy rear diffuser but if you're happy thats all that matters...
