Well I've been busy, not much to show though.
I painted the front fender supports with base coat today, the paint is gorgeous in person I'm stoked! It's funny thought he camera REFUSES to pick up the metal flake as it looks in person, the best I could do is these two shots here:
670_zpslxbny9bh.jpg
671_zpsmitzyn9q.jpg
Also I hit the rear diffuser with some black primer to get rid of the yellow ABS glue and other crap, I have a lot of work to do to clean it up still but I'm ALMOST thinking of just leaving it as it is hah - the center wasn't hit because I didn't take out the lights so you can see how it used to look vs how it cleans up nicely black:
672_zpsbfb0l9pw.jpg
I've also been on the fence about painting the rockers body colour or not. I love the black rockers on these cars because it makes the car look lower and stream-lined but I ALSO like the full body colour setups. The issue is that I've always seen the TRIM also body colour and that's never been my thing. Paint the rockers blue to match the car, but then see the jack spots and I don't like that so I've filled mine in, but then you see body-coloured rockers AND the split at the bottom of the fender, THEN I found this car:

ALPINA001.jpg
How perfect, blue rockers, split at the fender, black body/door trim, AND Alpina lip just like me! This musn't be a real Alpina but it's the exact look I'm going for + my rockers won't have that wavy nonsense that the plastic rockers have AND you won't see the jack holes on the side.

Heh.. I COULD just go out there and spray it all, but I *want* to make everything as perfect as possible before hand, so the painting will be the reward for all of the hard work.
Y'know, you watch youtube videos or tv shows about car restoration and you think, "Cool man I could totally do that!" and "Wow I really get this, no biggy I'll do it!" And you DO IT. To that one door. Then you have three more doors to do, and a trunk, and a hood, and door jambs, and an interior, and an engine bay and trunk . . . surround area hah, and custom body work and omfg what am I doing!? =D

Lmao, that is so true,

Your current situation is not your final destination
Both fenders are sitting pretty, all blocked out and feel great - ready for epoxy primer.
Trunk was removed and trunk "jamb" was all scuffed up and cleaned and primed, looks great.
Some random body work on the rockers and roof all good and finished.
Annd just ordered ~300 parts from FCP! ~$500 CDN, can't wait for the duties/taxes charge.
I was going between FCP and ECS and although ECS used to treat me well, they wanted $300 shipping!? I could DRIVE there for cheaper. I don't know what's going on there but their rates are INSANE as of recent. FCP had 86% off shipping price, $40 is much more reasonable imo.
Anyway, I just spent 3 hours going over my list time and time and time again, and every single page on realoem to make sure I got every clip and bolt and washer and grommet I could possibly need! =D

(I've been building this cart for the past few weeks, prices had ALL dropped some as much as 50%! Make sure when you have a cart on FCP that you check the current prices before you hit submit, I saved over $80 easily!)

Looking good, I love the "I don't wanna do this anymore" at the end! Yup it's a butt ton of work.

For anyone who has ever wanted to replace a trim piece and noticed the parts are $80-100 each, I saw a deal for $169 for all door impact strips with chrome, and thought 'can't beat that' and ordered it.
$50 shipping, convert to CDN and it's $270 now and it feels like, "all I got were some door trim pieces." Hah
FCP still hasn't shipped my items, and I'm sweating just sitting here typing so not much work at all has been done.
This is what I ordered: http://www.ebay.com/itm/381657748973...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Yeah I figured they'll be better than mine. When the PO had it painted they pried them off and bent the chrome, and there were gouges missing from the rubber/plastic. So . . . my only complaint is that I already ordered the clips and grommets for them and these ones come WITH them =D

It does say or I couldn't find if they were for an i or iL? Back door pieces would make a difference.

Yeah they would, I messaged them and asked about it they said if I don't specify when buying they will send a question before shipping. So when I ordered I just wrote a comment, "for 740i, do not send for 740iL only 740i please."

LOTS of work today, heat won't win this time! ... although it kind of did.
Lots of work on the trunk lid, sanded down smooth, taped off and primered the inside first:

Feathered the edges and hit with paint, 3 coats, here is the colour in the sun!

Love the colour in the sun - again no clear yet so I'm assuming it lighten up but SPARKLE more hooray, thparklth.
Also used my last can on hand of the epoxy primer, did the windshield jamb, moon roof surround/hole, fenders both front and rear, and some FINAL final final touch ups on the rear lower lip. Uh yi yi!

So nice to see some colour on your car at last Jamos. Like all the rest(and yourself no doubt) I've been waiting for this moment.

I hope you're happy purplecty . . . I've decided against NOT using spray cans.
GAT DAMMIT! I just did the trunk lid - first LARGE panel - and it's horrible, haha. It's not bad at all, but it's NOT perfect, AND it used more than 2 cans of paint.
Not interested in that nonsense, and the fact that the cans aren't a constant spray is the most annoying part.
Cans have worked GREAT for small areas - fender areas, jambs etc.. but as soon as you go a few feet with it, they spray all messy and there's no cleaning that crap up.
JEEPERS.
At least I figured this out on the trunk lid, and not on the roof or something insane.
Now, to learn everything I need to know about paint guns, cleaning, etc.. uh YI YI!

Sorry you had to learn the hard way. I mean why dont body shops paint with spray cans? Its obvious(to all but 1 ;p)you dont want to spray a car with cans... If you want a professional finish do it like the pros!
All the stuff I have painted until today, came out wonderful! The clear coat is what seals it, and that Spraymax stuff is incredible - as you can see in that gas tank I did last year. The trouble now is that the cans have always lasted for tests, but once I went to do the entire lid - TWO CANS and still not enough!? That's WAY too much $$ for the quality.
Now I have to find a good paint supplier around here, but at least this way I can whatever colour I want, "See this picture, I want THAT blue. . . "

I really hope you find that color paint in bulk. It would be shame to have to respray all the areas you have already completed.

I haven't cleared anything, and I've only painted hidden spots on the car so far - all as tests, THAT were going great until today. They aren't cleared yet either, so easy enough to just respray over top of them.
Here's how it laid down on the epoxy primer, very even and bright: (B pillar)
677_zpsffxiycuh.jpg
Trouble is, here's how it laid on the trunk itself, you can see stripes here (only one coat under the license plate, so those are extreme of course)
679_zpsetswgy63.jpg
The paint can hates being tilted anymore than ONE degree, splat splat splat:
678_zpsxgbswsjj.jpg
And of course, the all together look:
676_zpsjf4omeld.jpg
As you can see, one more coat of blue on the trunk would fix the tiger stripes, BUT that is ANOTHER can and that's $45 of paint alone, so the hood would be $90-100, each door at $30-40, and.. for that price I can get the proper setup and base AND clear it for the same price. Derp derp DERP. Always thought the first time I was wrong would be easier than this
