Update 4/14/19:
I’m starting/well into V1.2 of this project after not really working on the car for a couple years. I have put about 25k miles on the setup which has been more or less trouble free, but it needs some love for sure, and I have a daily now so I have no excuses not to crack into it.
List of work completed on the refresh (updated as more gets done):
-Replaced cracked cylinder head
-Replaced chain tensioner with s52 unit
-Replaced chain guides
-Rebuilt VANOS with Beisan Systems rebuild and anti rattle kit
-Rebuilt the turbo
-Fixed boost leak at the intake manifold
-Replaced ignition coils
-Replaced the Mishimoto radiator
-Replaced the battery and now keep the car on a tender when it’s not being driven regularly
-Fixed an oil leak at the turbo return line
-Replaced the Vanos line which is also leaking
-Replaced the (destroyed) driveshaft
-Replaced the clutch pedal bushings
-Replaced the (also destroyed) m3 diff with 315 lsd out of a 95 m3
-Replaced ALL the bushings with Condor Speed Shop kit
-Replaced my busted ass gauge pods with the rally road kit -Tune revisions done by TRM
I will update the parts list below as things change, or are added.
Updates start on page 3

Well I guess its time for me to start a build thread... So for a little background, the car in question is my 96 hellrot 328is which I have had for about 3 and a half years now (wow time flies) and I'm finally in a financial position to boost my m52

Good luck on the build!
Im actually running that Treadstone 255 pump. Its holding up so far just a little noisy.
running the TRM obd2 tuning package as well. few revisions and is running pretty well.
Do you have any sources for people running them who had them crack? I would like to talk to more people who have run them. Its going to be temporary anyway. I will upgrade to a better quality t4 and bigger turbo for more power eventually. The rest of the build is going to be able to support a lot more power than what this turbo can put out.
Thanks man!
I have heard that the TRE pump is more reliable than a walbro, i guess i will find out. I have high hopes for the reliability of this setup. TRM sounded like the simplest and most plug and play way to go as far as tuning, granted its not the cheapest route.
Quick update cleaned the motor up a bit and tore her down. Head is off to the machine shop for clean, resurface, and pressure test. When I get back from vacation in a week, I will be hitting the block with a couple honing stones to get the sealing surface looking pretty.
Opened up a few packages from rally road, tms, IE, and bimmerworld
Modified intake air temp sensor that plugs directly into the m/s50 manifold and plugs into the obdII harness

So i got the head back, it had a few leaky valves, but those lapped in nicely and now passes a pressure test. When you guys have gotten tour heads back, have they been cleaner than this? I sort of feel like they did a half ass job with the cleaning. No big deal though it will run just the same.
Got to work on the block. This is after 8 labor intensive passes with the rough side of the honing stones
And then after 8 passes with the fine side. I flushed out all of the oil and coolant passages with brake clean, then turned the block upside down to remove the tape and rinse out any residue in the cylinders with brake clean. I then covered everything in a light coat of wd40 as i wont be assembling the engine until my cut ring gasket shows up on wednesday.
Sorry for the crap iphone pic quality..
Heres a picture of a cut away holset at work I thought you guys might find interesting.
On a slightly unrelated note im shopping for a cheap one piece flywheel. I know alot of guys have ran f1 units and had success, is that company still around? If so a link to buy there flywheels? Otherwise i was thinking about buying an fx racing unit. Has anyone on here ran one? Thanks.
I believe the name of the company you're looking for is "F1 Stage 3". They sell in eBay. That is the name of the company. NOT the quality of the clutch and flywheel.

Gripforce is the company on eBay that sells the F1, FX whatever it's called these days.
I'm running the 240mm chromoly stage 3 with sprung hub, no real complaints

I plan to flirt with 500whp and want to have some wiggle room as far as holding power for when I want more. Do you think a clutchmasters 6 puck would hold if im approaching 600wheel? Im a bit torn between 4 and 6 puck. I dont really want to buy another clutch.

The goods from TRM
The $450 Gripforce clutch+Ltw flywheel can hold 430wtq it says so I'd say 450-500whp is doable but close to its limits.
The next best option jumps up to like $1500 unfortunately.

I'm no expert but I don't think you can readily mix different aftermarket clutches and flywheels unless maybe something with the UUC flywheel

I went to the cam grinder today with my cams after they said they could grind them for 145 a piece. Only to find find out that no, in fact they can't grind them because its a hollow camshaft. Although i believe that people have run welded and ground m/s5x cams, without issue. My point being, does anyone have s52 cams for sale? Didn't see any in the classifieds.

Cut ring + spacer installed.
manifold and trubo mounted, used n54 studs with m52 nuts. Worked pretty well, the studs are short so the threads don't quite make it to the top of the nut. But certainly makes install a breeze.
Getting some fab done on the charge piping
-10 bung welded in for the return.
I discovered you can in fact run any aftermarket clutch with their flywheels (according to the product description), given its the correct diameter. That being said, I cheaped out and got an fx stage 4 rigid 6 puck, and chromoly flywheel. Clutchmasters claimed their unit could hold 180% over stock torque, which didnt really impress me that much. Though I'm sure it would handle a fair bit more.
I did a search to try and get an idea of what spark plugs to run but I came up empty handed. I know i have seen something while lurking in FI, just can't seem to find it. Any info as far as part #, heat range, and gap would be appreciated!
Build looks great! Are you going to retain ac with your setup?
93 325is: obd2 M52, 22rpd tuned, 6266, RSI manifold, 555whp on 18psi
Thanks! No I'm not going to run ac. My compressor as well as the one from my parts car are both toast. At some point i may buy a new one and fix the system, but it's not very high on my priority list. it's usually cold where i live, and eventually this will be a dedicated stripped out track car anyhow.
