    5.0 Swap Guys w/ E36 325is chassis - experience with motor mount height e30 vs e36?

    Gents,

There's so much good information here, I can't believe it.

I'm about to do the Ford 5.0 swap into a '94 325is chassis. The mounts I obtained from "the usual source," which I see are not universally loved, but without getting into all that . . . .

I've read of one person (Joh) who used the taller E36 poly mounts with them, and still needed to shim them a bit to keep the oil pan off the cross member. http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh...8#post23988578

Other guys with 4-cyl coupes used E30 mounts and more shims.

So before I order the E36 poly mounts based on what I found with "Search," I thought I would just post one shout-out to see if anyone had additional guidance to offer on the subject.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

In the hopes of helping out the next guy with this question --

For the "newer" version of those motor mounts, made with two pieces of thick angle connected by a piece of thick box tube.

I'm using a '94 325is chassis (that's the coupe, not the sedan). The Revshift E36 polyU mounts are way too tall. The oil pan clears the crossmember, and the mount clears the rag joint, rather spectacularly. But there's no way to get the hook closed.

I have just ordered their E30 mounts, and I will try those next.

Did you get the E30 Mounts tested yet? Which Revshift E30 mounts are they? I saw a couple different versions on their website.

e36 were way too tall for my 95 325is. The mounts were unreturnable after i put the engine in and tightened em so being mad that i was out 100 on some IE mounts i got two hockey pucks(per-side) and a grade 8 bolt going in from the bottom washer and nut on top. I boxed in my subfframe for reinforcement also. This setup works well because its also damn near impossible to get a washer on the bottom through the hole in the reinforcement plate I made(or any id imagine) so with the bolt you can just slide a washer onto it. Overall i think its easier, I put my motor in inabout 30 min with the tranny attached and pulled it yesterday in less than that. got a tko500 going back in instead of the t5, pretty pumped.

I'm using the $60 M20 E30 mounts in the 95A street/track hardness with my own custom motor mounts.

Ok thanks. I am going to do a test fit this weekend and see if I can get some $3 hockey pucks to do the trick. If not I will pick up a pair of the m20 e30 mounts. I am assuming a hockey pucks should have a hardness of about 90A.

This site says 91A so that's a pretty decent estimate!

Laminar, you happen to know the bolt size for the motor mount on the 302 off the top of your head?

Edit** NVM found it. 7/16" Course x 1"

I too made my own motor mounts. In this picture I used stock e30 mounts but were too low. I now have stock e36 mounts installed.

I used two on each side and it worked out pretty much perfectly, the oil pan just barely is above the ps-rack+subframe.

If anybody needs a pair of the E36 poly mounts in 95A (http://www.revshift.com/product-p/pmm-r36.htm), PM me and you can have mine for half price. Never been fired and only installed once.
