Unicorn Headers for the S62/M62/M60 powered E39s

I thought I'd share this with fellow E39 fans with the V8 engine. Finally got the dyno results on my own header design. For those that are looking for more power, this can be a good option. My headers had a gain of 25hp & 23 ft/lb over the Dinan headers. So over stock, perhaps 65 hp, can be more with some tweaks and a tune. Test car used was my 2000 540iT that underwent a full M5 conversion build a few years ago.

The Jed is here! THE JED IS HERE!

Stop being such a c**k tease and just post pricing for really good M5board and bf.c members you know like me already I have TWO cars that would probably need these headers y'know.

BTW Jed your sig is broken.

(As an aside, Jed is a friendly and helpful guy. Back when I was considering an S62 540iT swap he was generous enough to allow me to call him and ask him a ton of questions after which I put together a rough "How to turn your 540iT into an M5iT document which I ended up never using.)

Unicorn Headers for the S62/M62/M60 powered E39s

Lmao! I really don't want to be a tease, but rather give everyone a heads up so they can start saving $$$ for these. Would love to start selling them already but I need to hammer out some more details.

Damn sig. I can build unicorns but I can't figure out how to get my sig to appear right. How lame is that?

    I appreciate the kind words!

I think all of those in the heavily modded wagon brotherhood should get the discount promo code for sure.

Those are so nummy it makes me contemplate yanking my budget headers for them... At least they'll be WAY easier to install even though taking mine off would suck....

Ummmm, we may all need promo codes! They look nice. What size are the primary tubes?

Jed, you should set up a group buy, that may be the only way to get around the "no for sale posts" on this forum.
If you were a Supporting Vendor than it wouldn't be an issue. I don't think there are other Supporting Vendors selling headers so there shouldn't be any conflicts.

First of all, very nice craftsmanship but do forgive my skepticism as my understanding that equal length Dinan headers are superior to Supersprint and Evolve and to have such a power gain over them and potentially 65 HP over stock headers is pretty big claim. Is there more technical data to back this up. Dyno is great but dynos can be elusive.

I welcome the skepticism. What kind of technical data are you looking for?

If you do want some more background, here's the link below with more details and history on these headers. Have a read and would like to know your thoughts.

    http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/sho...d.php?t=439137

I do plan to test these headers on a bone stock M5 and 540i later down the road. It might take a while since these headers are prototypes, I need to work on making more. The assumption that my headers put out 65 over stock is calculation based on already known numbers that the Dinan headers put out. The dyno charts above clearly shows the gains over the Dinans.

I know a 540i with some good dyno history that might be willing to accept a donated set of headers for testing and will provide before and after results. <ahem>

Would love nothing more that to do that and I'm working very hard to get production cost down to the point that these will be attainable for lots of folks.

Thanks! Waiting on some new rear springs and rear adj perches to stiffen up the rear a bit more, then you can whip it around a few.

The trade off with taking unwanted headers out and putting some really nice ones in. Pain before the gain lol.

Thank you for the advice! When I get to that point, I'm sure it will be way to get around that rule.

I prefer not to disclose certain specs of the headers for obvious reasons, I'd like to keep them as trade secrets for now.
