Help me identify this hydraulic line?

    Hello everyone,

First and foremost I want to say a big retrospective thank you to the community here for the extensive information you provide which I have called upon many times during my time owning my E32 750iL. I have visited countless times over my now 2+ years of ownership which has helped me keep my car on the road so far and undoubtedly will into the future. Unfortunately I suppose the information is often too good, as until now I haven't had to make a single post to get solutions...

    To business:

My current project on the car is attempting to plug all of the little weeps and leaks coming from the hydraulic system. I discovered fairly early in my ownership of the car that the system had been filled at some stage with ATF instead of Pentosin by a previous owner. After a great deal of research into the different types of Pentosins and their alternatives, I flushed out the ATF as best I could and replaced it but unfortunately the damage appears to already have been done as more and more leaks pop up now and then in different spots on the car.

Right now the biggest leak is coming from one of the hoses which appears to run from the DS regulator for the brakes down to the top of the power steering pump. I have attached some images below of the line in question. No matter how hard I look I haven't been able to find any diagrams showing this particular line and so I can't find the part number for a replacement. Can anybody here help me work out which one I need to order?

The last seven digits of my VIN are 4372004.

    Thanks

    Based on the VIN # 16 Pressure hose assembly 32411139508 Right-hand drive U.S. $151.02 http://2009.bmwfans.info/parts/catal...ing_oil_pipes/
Maybe you ask a local hydraulic shop to crimp you a new hose on the metal pipes, years ago I sent a hydraulic hose to a friend in Australia and he went to a shop from enzed locally http://www.enzed.com.au/

Thanks so much for that shogun, you're an absolute credit to all E32 enthusiasts and you've saved me once again.

As it so happens I was at Enzed just the other day to get an A/C hose for another car made up and they were my backup for in case the hose was unavailable/unreasonably expensive, so I'll be visiting them again soon.

A polite suggestion when you start the repair to clean up and detail the engine to help find the leaks. It's not a rewarding exercise to those of use without OC behaviors, but for repairs and diagnosis--priceless.

One interesting item I just found out when checking the first pic again, your 1987 BMW 750iL VIN 4372004 still has the round shaped ignition coils installed, BMW p/n 12131286087 round type, aka rod-type, later they changed to the ring type ignition coils. Could you make a picture of the engine bay showing the installation of both ignition coils? Never have seen these in the M70 engine bay. Just in case you need new ones, I have these on stock from Bosch new, probably pretty expensive in OZ. I already shipped several of these Bosch ignition coils to OZ, they are used in E23: 733i,735i,732i,735i, 745i, E24: 633CSi,635CSi, M6, M635CSi, E28: 528e,533i,535i,M5,525e,520i, E30: 325e,325i,325ix,M3,320i,316i,318i,320is, E32: 735i/L,750iL,730i/L M30B30, E34: 525i,530i M30B30, 535i,520i,518i,E36: E36 316i Sedan, Europe,E36 318i Sedan, Europe

Mate you should have seen the filth there was when I got it! You're absolutely right though, I like to neaten things up wherever I can but as I'm using the 750 as my daily driver I unfortunately haven't had the chance to really tear it down and do it properly the way I would like to. I have another car which is a project where we've had the motor out and rebuilt it from bottom to top. Having the block and the head dipped and getting the chance to get a toothbrush and some diesel into all of the little nooks and crannies makes all the difference. There is nothing quite like a 25 year old car with not a single speck of grime in the engine bay. Never fear though, the BMW will get the same treatment one day when I get a "more sensible" daily.

Shogun, here is the picture of my engine bay, hopefully it shows you what you want to see. The ignition coils are tucked behind the air boxes on either side. I have noticed a couple of oddities in my car when doing various repairs, none that spring to mind right now though. I've always attributed the minor differences to the car being such an early model. If there was anything else you were curious about I'm happy to get out my archaeologist's hat and take more photos for you.

Thanks, that was exactly what I was looking for, never have seen the proper installation of the round style ignition coils. Is there any part number on the rubber caps on top of the ignition coils? Must be a BMW number I assume, not part of the Bosch ignition coil.
    Other things I noted:
Looks like you still have the original water pump installed with a bleed screw on top. This was changed to a water pump with a stud connection and a hose is connected there which goes to the left side of the radiator. It has a y-piece connection and the other part then goes into the expansion tank. On your pic there is only the small line from radiator top left to expansion tank, newer version looks like this and there you can also see the other version of the ignition coils

This change was made for a better balance of the pressure and bleeding system of the M70, from the return line there should be a steady stream of coolant going into the expansion tank as shown here http://www.nmia.com/~dgnrg/ret2.jpg

Also remove the center cover on top and check if the fuel pressure regulator hoses are connected correct, cross-wise as shown here https://www.flickr.com/photos/mjraudio/6061907683/

All is well with the regulator lines and that is interesting about the pump.

The rubber boots have a BMW logo and the part number: 1 713 680

The car has a tow bar which appears to be factory fitted. Do you suppose that could be the special equipment?
I'll have a look for the production paper next time I have the seats out, which is likely to be soon.

On the rubber boot front, it can be seen in the diagram I've linked below, on the end of item ten #12121725038. Perhaps they come as a set?

Yes, the rubber boot is part IGNITION WIRE complete between ignition coil and distributor, BMW #12121713726 till 10/1987, no longer available. After that date ignition wire from 10/1987 12121725038 was used.
940 could be the tow bar, unless there is a optional extra in the option code list I posted above which is for a tow bar.

Just to follow up I've now had the hose rebuilt by Enzed in Bayswater. A relative bargain at $82.73 AUD total.
