I will be replacing my center console I drive, instrument cluster, and radio this week but need your help on install and coding not worried about mile just vin and getting care encoded properly. NCS Expert can make a trace file of your old coding and you can load that into the new M5 cluster once you've got the VIN and mileage set and restored from the M5 cluster backup. The whole point of the DIY is to clear the VIN and mileage from the old car, insert a blank EEPROM, program the VIN and mileage of your new car, then restore from the backup of the new cluster. Since the VIN and mileage can't be changed once set, it fills in all the other holes by restoring the backup. Those settings can then be set using your standard coding tools (NCS, PA Soft, etc.).

    I hope this all makes sense. In summary, you shouldn't have any trouble following this DIY to install a M5 cluster in your car that had a low non-m cluster.

    Yes, it is just read value. If the VIN doesn't match the LCM, it changes it back to on.

    I am interested in you programing my cluster, my cluster has a problem with the ambient sensor which does not reset, I have changed the sensor 3 times once with BMW themselves and I was told the cluster was no good so I just purchased a used one. Can you help me out? I do not know how to PM to give you my information please let me know. Thanks

    Is this for an e46 like you show in your profile, or is it for an e39? Please message me on my facebook page www.facebook.com/Fixels as I can get back to you quicker there. I've not heard of a cluster being why an ambient temp sensor is not working, but you can also test fit the used cluster you bought and see if it has the same problem or not. I would guess that most likely it's a wiring issue rather than a sensor or cluster. Those plastic pork chops get caught on parking lot curbs all the time and rip out and can break the wire for the ambient temp sensor easily. Maybe that's happened in the past.

    So, I've got a cluster with m35080-1 chip and the SW is 14. Does the "M35080: (Clusters with SW versions 15+)" still apply to me or do i have to make a different approach? And also i've wanted to ask.. I got the cluster from a m54b30 e39 from 2001 while my car is a 528i from 1995/10 the old cluster is 93S66. The temp gauge goes to red even tho the car is cold and the ASC indication is always on (pics below) will i be able to fix that with the coding or will that stay?

    I don't have alot of experience in cluster's but I do know its always better to get the exact same cluster as your old one, like number, sw, eeprom, etc.

    I read the eeprom with bmwscanner, however I don't find the addresses you refer to:

    "Set 0x014 to 0x024 to all 00. Also set 0x02C to 0x038 to all 00. These set the error codes to nothing.
    Set 0x1C4 to 0x1FF and 0x36C to 0x3A8 to (Two different block locations and only do this on M35080 clusters):
    00 00 00 00 0C 40 53 0C FF FF FF FF
    FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF

    Yes, you do. Each row is a range from 0x000 to 0x00F. Each Byte (2 character hex value) increases each column.

    For example, the value at 0x014 is in the row 0x010, then start at 0 and count to the 5th column (0, 1, 2, 3, 4) and that is the value at 0x014. In your case, the value at 0x014 would be "05" in hex.

    Understand? I'm not the authority on how to edit hex, but it helps to know how to read it to do this stuff. There are much better guides on the basics of hex editing. This guide isn't that. I hope that helps.

    Also, when I say to set 0x014 to 0x024 to a value, I mean the entire range of values from address 0x014 to address 0x024. Meaning you should have 10 sets of "00" starting at 0x014 and ending at 0x024.

    There's 16 columns in each row.
    So it should be:

    But it doesn't work, so maybe then

    M35080VP or V6 are the same and work in older clusters with the M35080-3 chips, so those would be suggested, but don't order them on eBay. All of the ones I have purchased or people I know have purchased on eBay are junk counterfeits. I don't bother with new chips, I just erase the known good ones that come out of the cluster.

    I can’t find 0x200 to 0x21F or any of the 0x014 etc, all I see is the left colum with 00000000 to 00000090 then 000000A0 to 000000F0 and then 00000100 to 00000190 then 000001A0 to 000001F0. In the middle is alot of random pairs of Numbers and or letters like FF, 00 and C6 for example and then to the right the ASCII.

    I dont get What to Edit 💛 thanks in advance 🙏🙏

    (Maybe my file is corrupt in some way, I will try do a new backup using my ”new” but secondhand cluster)

    Which car are you working with? What year is it? The address location is the column on the left and the data to change is in the right section. If you're using a cluster that has a 95s66 chip, it only has 0x1FF. It's half the size of the M35080.

    These instructions are specific to e38/e39/e53 and only general for an e46 as the locations of the data are different for e46. E46 has a few different variants and finding the VIN and mileage for each is different.

    Would you guess i have a 95s66 chip or m35080?
    Could I just copy & paste from original cluster eeprom to new blank eeprom and then solder that onto my ”new” secondhand cluster? Guessing I could just solder back the old chip if not, right?

    Ok so I have an m35080 chip, pa soft wont let me ”write odometer” and when i try ”write FNGSTR” it says ”Use factory reset” but that’s greyed out :/ so my best bet is to back up eeprom, edit and paste on new blank m35080… lets ???? go ! ����
