Small block chevy 350 E36 swap power steering

Hey guys, swapping a carbed chevy 5.7 v8 in and was wondering what you guys (who have done or seen it done before) have used as a power steering pump and pulley?

At first I was thinking a GM pump which will bolt right up to the block but is the pump pressure enough for the E36 rack? Or did people make an adapter bracket on the v8 block for the E36 pump? Thanks!

About time someone did this. Stupid awesome! For the love of god make a diy in depth. I will undoubtedly buy the next e36 in the yard just to make this happen. My pops would die happy with me! Lol.

I'd love to have a SB Chevy in an e36, easy and cheap to make more power. If they overheat, fix the cause and keep on driving, pretty indestructible in that matter.

Gave away my BMWs, driving a VW and an Audi now.

Far too heavy for my liking.

Ignorant? It's a personal preference considering 90% of the cars I've owned have been Chevys with a 350.

You must have seen some shitty 350's then. It's American? Now that statement right there sounds ignorant. Whether it's a Japanese motor or an American motor its going in a Euro car.

Ok, kids, how about we actually try and help OP figure out their issue here. Personally Id probably just use the GM pump because itll install easily, but for retaining steering feel you may want to find a way to mount the BMW pump in the GM mount somehow.

Just make a custom bracket to mount the BMW pump to the block is your E36 PS pump serpentine or v belt?

Is this a Gen 1 SBC? Or does it have the later serpentine setup? I could see with a v belt being able to make a custom bracket and fit as that's the only belt that will have to align with that pulley. But if it's a serpentine I don't think a custom bracket will work UNLESS you get it very close to original design for the serpentine. Slightly off and it'll rip that belt like no tomorrow

Yup, I'd recommend running V belt setup with the E36 pump and a custom bracket, bout the only way it'll work.

A good fabricator can make a bracket for the OE pump, that's ideal. The Chevy pump will work but may not have the pressure specs the same as BMW. Higher or lower at certain RPMs. This sounds like an awesome project though, really need pics!

Could be heavy for a road course. Small block Chev is 200 lbs heavier. Kinda tilts the 50/50 weight ratio, but drag racing would be fun.

Obviously using a Chevy transmission with a custom drive shaft.

I was using cookie cutter in terms of the lacking character. Everyone and their mother throws a 350 into everything because it's easy. Plus, they're turds.
