Mate, the one with no mufflers sounds rough! Now this is something to aspire to:

Sounds supercharged to me and all kinds of exotic!

We managed a reasonableshowing at a local car show yesterday: six cars, which isn't too bad for lil' ole New Zealand. There are a bunch of pics on my flickr page: https://www.flickr.com/photos/978541...7650955833509/

The silver and Orient Blau CSIs were built on the same day and were both celebrating their 21st birthdays yesterday. Pretty amazing that the silver one (belonging to member kiwiCSI) has only done approximately 30,000kms (less than 19K miles!!).

Here are a few pics of mine:

Note the little girl who is completely mesmerised by the beauty of the M70.

Still think the back needs to come down a touch... Looks a bit rakey. Currently running Eibach springs. They're perfect at the front but the rear is about an inch too high. The csi rears look perfect so will try and get my hands on some of those.

Cool to see that polished up cortina on basket weaves, the Alfa and that mid engine opal!
    The 8 is looking great.
    Where was the show?

My sister is just around the corner on Seacliffe Ave, crazy. Funny seeing everyone in jandals and shorts.

Tropical Cyclone Pam (which just devastated Vanuatu) was predicted. In typical kiwi fashion the show goes ahead regardless and we all go in shorts and jandals. Pam fizzled past last night. I think som unripe feijoas may have fallen from our tree.

Yeah my family weathered a cyclone west of Whakatane in a camper a few years ago.
I miss feigoas!!!! My gran used to make jam and wine from them. Good stuff.

I only compressed the springs by around 20mm in the front and 15mm in the rear and it hasn't affected performance or ride quality much but I would strongly recommend ensuring that your shocks are suitable for the ride height you're aiming for. I fitted sport shocks and used the csi bump stops and reinforcement plates in the rear to give the best possible ride from the slightly shortened spring set up.

If you can find a set of springs that are at the ride height you want, without compressing, the car will handle best as long as your shocks, etc are also designed to run at that height.

Very bad idea to compress standard springs with standard shocks just for looks as the car will handle like a dog.
Awesome job on your 8. What is your tire set up in term of sizes front and rear?

Thanks Eddy. Fronts are 235/40/R18, rears are 275/40/R18. Would be slightly better with 265/40s at the back but they're harder to get and tend to cost more over here.

Fitted the cross pipe for me on Saturday. There was a bit of a hiccup so, unfortunately, it'll need to come off and be straightened (those with sharp eyes will notice the driver's side tips are a bit low) but it has done the business sound-wise and performance doesn't seem hampered in any way. iPhone vid doesn't do it justice but you can hear a touch of exotic now the banks are mixing... Now, that I know the setup works I just need to save up for a full stainless version and better mufflers.

Set it up is now as follows:
No cats, x-pipe (post O2 sensors), stock resonator, Magnaflow boxes.

What was the loud knock at startup? I had it a few times after cat removal and never before, so I am curious.

In person it has a sort of hollow metallic ring to the sound... Like some lambos sound on start up. Not sure what causes it but I tend to hear it starting when I have to turn it over slightly longer.

^This. A flat plane crank and DOHC would do wonders. I'll be interested to hear how Wolf's M70B54 sounds - it has Schrick cams so should sound great with a good exhaust system.

With a cross pipe? The banks don't mix anywhere with stock exhaust, hence why it sounds like two sixes not a 12. I kept the resonator as I've found in previous cars (E39 540 and 528) that the stock resonator is the most effective thing for reducing cabin drone.

Very happy with the sound of mine now and reckon a full custom stainless version with a longer cross pipe and better mufflers would sound and perform brilliantly.

It also sounds great under load in manual mode in first and second gear. Will try and get some video of that too.

The resonator mixes the gasses - you can plug the two tailpipes on one side and it all puffs out the other pair!

I don't think it does. Can't remember where I saw it but I've seen a 850i resonator cut in half and the two banks don't mix. I'll see if I can find the pic.
