    I've made a wonderful mistake!

Picked up a '95 M3 a couple months ago to turn into a dedicated track car. I've been tracking my Focus ST for a couple years now but its time to move on to a more permanent track car. I found this one that needed gutted anyways and bought it for next to nothing. Well now I'm well into with nearly everything on the front end replaced/upgraded. Got most of the interior out and seats ready to install and will finish up with oil temp, pressure, and water temp gauges this week. After that its on to the rear end which I should have everything ready to go (except a rear gear upgrade for later). So here's my ode to joining the E36 parade. Was a former E60 M5 and E30 318is owner.

Plans are for the first season to keep the car street legal with all the glass and no cage. I hope to add at least a roll bar/cage next year. I plan to run at Mid Ohio, VIR, NCM, Summit, and Putnam Park.

Had to trailer this beast home.

    The interior was spotless!

My son turning wrenches....father of the year?

Had to repair a couple wheels...

Replaced nearly every piece of rubber under and on the intake. Water pump, t-stat housing, removed a/c, adding oil cap with oil cooler this week.

First oil change was a great success!

So I had to buy a tow rig...

Thanks. I'll hopefully have some updated pics this week with the car finally back on the ground.

Also the purpose of this thread was for me to open this up to any recommendations or considerations being my first E36 build. Thanks

Nice build! If you need any rear bushings or RTABs, hit me up. I bought extra when doing mine...DOH!

I was in the same boat as you last summer...I retained a little 'streetability' in mine as I need to wait to get another daily driver before really tearing things out.

How are guys with aftermarket radiators mounting the expansion tank?

    - - - Updated - - -

Also any advice on headers? S50 motor and while I'm throwing money into this bottomless pit I am going with basically straight exhaust and wanted to go from header back. I'm not looking for historic hp here, cheap eBay headers seem to be the way to go. Is there a particular one?

Can probably get OE S52 headers for next to nothing. They are a good improvement.

I saw that doing some limited research. So something like a longtube has no real advantage over the S52 style? Who's got one laying around? lol

I think there is an eBay brand that everyone prefers (I forget off hand), but still of dubious benefit especially since you cannot bolt long tubes to any OE exhaust.

Picked a set of the S52 headers,....question. Can I run them into a collector and run a single pipe straight back into a muffler? I haven't even been under the car to look but that's what I assume the oem setup is already. I want to take it to a local shop to have them do all the work but figured I'd need to know what I'm getting into.

Picked up some BMW 162 18" wheels cheap, plan to run them (since I already have a set of slicks and r-comps in 18"s from my ST). I'll post more pics this weekend.

Update time. Finally got all the engine work done, front suspension and nearly all the interior gutted including excess wiring. I was about to drop and replace the rear sub frame but I got a hookup on some body work and paint. I've been tossing with the idea of Signal Green but decided on Azure Blue, since my interior (seats and roll bar) will be red I think it will look good together. It goes for paint Monday. I hope to have it on the track by the middle of May. Mid Ohio and NCM are calling!

Pulling the wire isn't as bad as I thought it would be. That one pictured is just the radio to rear cd changer!

I think I've changed my mind on the blue, I think I'll go with Estoril instead.

She's back! Got some body work done and decided on Estoril blue and I think it turned out excellent. Can't wait to get a set or hyper silver wheels and vinyl on.

Got a new/used subframe to swap in with all new bushings, the used one had to be welded up as the factory welds were terrible and cracked. Also another BMW followed me home yesterday, '89 325 IX!
