Mpowered02, Trans is holding up so far so good but with the added power it just doesn't shift quick enough and i'm seriously thinking about the switch to a manual. The diff is definitely close enough! I added a block of rubber between the housing and the subframe to limit the diff from twisting up into the floor.

    Alphabet man What's up?

Interesting. I'll bet a modded valve body from IPT could fix the shifting problem.
Wow...so the torque is rotating the diff enough to knock? Maybe it's time to invest in some beefier diff bushings? Have also heard of a few cases of failed diff mounts on the subframe. I believe Dinan used to make a diff reinforcement "kit" for $60 that was like 1 piece of aluminum that needed to be welded onto the subframe to reinforce the mount. I think they originally made it for their supercharger kit, which suggests that they thought it necessary to reinforce the diff mount when running an S/C...

Completely stumbled across toolman's excellent work on the jag XKR blower adapter while looking around for twin-screw alternatives to the mighty (and top-end happy) VF centrifugal kit, i was poking around car-part and those blowers are CHEAP as beans, whole sets for under a grand.
i believe you mentioned on your boostaddicts thread you were charging about 2 grand for your adapter plates and such? which is nice as well.

it'd be nice to compile some kind of list of specific parts to use aside from that, not necessarily compiling it into a kit, but just a solid shopping list for things that play well together....

They have intercoolers built in to the top.

I'm working on putting the larger rotors in the m112 case.
but an sts-v blower with integrated intercooling being too tall?
come on toolman, you know the solution, something that i'm amazed nobody as mentioned, considering how iconic they are
    a hood bump, a-la the e92 m3

of course the downside here is that it seems all the aftermarket e39 hoods with bumps in them are either really ugly looking carbon fiber dealies, or have all kinds of vent holes in them which just look eugh.

bodycolor painting the fins in those vents could help, at least.

also you really should call this thing the paris peace treaty

Looking for an e39 Touring black carpet set, including the rear cargo cubbies and side sections!
ALSO looking for 540i 6speed manual transmission sets (2001+ pedals with switches, driveshaft, gearbox), for the 6speed swap! Probably not for a while....

Correct. Of course molding a power-bulge E39 carbon hood would be entirely possible but would notch the budget of the project a few good steps out...

    quite true
    but that whine!

    Edit:
actually this duraflex stuff looks acceptable, the vents are small, the bulge is proper sized, and it can all be painted body color so the vents dont stand out and might even be (slightly) functional

chomping at the bit for updates here. the worst part about having very little spare cash is not being able to jump into projects like this to experiment in your free time.

also, found an alternative "power bulge" hood that seems to have actual carbon fiber in it and is built properly, it's over on schmiedmann

    image_41077_big.jpg

$787 before shipping, spendy but not too bad.
that bulge isn't just for show by the way, there's a rather large indentation in the hood frame on the backside so yes, that its usable extra room.
it might be too far back though...

also i'm pretty sure this can be painted. there are some people that like the carbon fiber look, i am not some people

okay so i'm getting bored with 11lbs boost and decided to step it up further. To get more blower speed I adapted a 6.42" 8 rib pulley from the 5.0 supercharged land rover to the crank pulley. That caused a clearance issue with the water pump pulley so I made a slightly smaller 8 rib water pump pulley along with a larger power steering and alternator pulley all 8 rib. 20160808_190159.jpg20160906_113211.jpg20160912_162614.jpg

amazing thread toolman, awesome setup! I see that you are running an auto, how is it holding up to the increased torque? Is your motor's bottom end stock? I would be super interested in this setup but first I gotta get my car running again...

Cant wait for the updates! good luck.

Thanks Itpiclles the auto held up fine but I have since gone to the 540I6. Yep stock bottom end. I went with the larger pulley setup to push the issue and see how far I could take it and see how the stock motor could handle it. It's been about 6 weeks now running 12.5-13 lbs boost and it pulls great!

Could you post a video or the setup in action, a couples if possible would be great.
