If memory serves I think total timing under boost was right around 26deg. Don't quote me on that it was in the summer, I'll check it again when I get it out this spring. It wasn't pulling timing but it's possible that DME has learned how much it could tolerate and limited it to that. I would like to know what the factory total timing is under normal conditions.
It does have somewhat of a curve to it. As soon as you give it a little gas boost gauge goes from vacuum to 0 and the car is pulling away from traffic so that's all that's needed for spirited driving. Mat it and boost goes immediately to 6lbs boost and ramps up to redline.
Haven't heard of any problems with running water/meth system with roots blower if you inject it before the throttle blade.
I'm running the stock pump and the factory jag injectors (36-37lb/hr) And cut pressure at idle and cruse, I'm only increasing fuel pressure to near stock levels on boost. Not sure how high its actually going cause the gauge is under the hood. At idle it likes about 36lbs pressure then goes up from there.
I started out really fat and leaned it out to around 11.5 to 1. I could really feel the power going up as I leaned it out from the 10 to 1 where it started.
Thanks!!!
I totally forgot about the fact that the RRFPR would pull pressure under vacuum like a regular boost referenced regulator, thus making is relatively easy to run larger injectors. That is phenomenal! You've really got me thinking now....
If you don't mind, could you please run down your MAF setup as far as what it's from and why you needed to swap out the stocker, etc? I'm going to guess that the stock one would have been over max, so you used the Jag one? Whatever the case, did you look at the voltages from the stock one and the replacement one?

By the way, as soon as I can get my car out, I will be happy to pull some scanner data for you from my '97. I think I have some notes on timing and whatnot, but I have no idea where I put it. Lol
Just need to finish my exhaust and get most of the salt off of the roads, then I'll get 'er out.
I hear you on the salt. My car is from California so don't want to get to get it out till it's all off the roads. I used the factory air meter in the 4in. tube.
FMU , wow .

Cool!
Thinking out loud here, the factory MAF housing on my car is about 3.4" maybe around 3.3" I.D... Putting the factory MAF in a 4 inch tube would scale down the voltage of the signal I think, although I could have that backwards, so essentially the same engine operating parameters would demand less pulsewidth at the injectors with the MAF in a 4" tube.
Two methods of compensating for that would be adjustments to long term fuel trims by the DME, or allowing the combination of altered fuel pressure and altered injector size to do at least some of the job as much as possible, and then let the long term fuel trims take care of the rest of the closed loop operation.
WOT Open loop operation would be controlled by the signal from the MAF, and where that falls on a set fuel map, which would be altered by the RRFPR adding fuel pressure, and the larger than stock injectors.
So basically if you can achieve a livable tune for the boost conditions, there is a good chance that the FMU and the long term fuel trim adjustments in closed loop can take care of the rest........ VERY interesting -- Old school tech for the win!!!

Toolman2, what ratio FMU have you found to work well?
I'm using a BEGI adjustable rate fmu so I can't say. It has a bleed screw that you open up to decrease the ratio and I have it about half way open that's about all I can tell you.
As I said before the "old school" tune works very well with the 8 to 10lbs boost. Any more and I'll have to think about more control over the tune.
Nice, thanks!!!
Having been one of a handful who've fallen prey to the $4200 German kit sold on eBay and it being far from what I'd ever expected, I'm glad someone local has produced this. Looking forward to when you start producing these so I can once again try to have this done before Bimmerfest in May. Someone trustworthy to make these kits has been a long time coming!

Well you never realize how bad something looks till you take a picture of it. So decided to clean up the wiring and put it under the coil covers. Had to cut and splice quite a few wires but I think it was worth it. The main thing is to cut and splice one wire at a time and make sure there is enough slack so it lays down low across the back of the motor.
Clean and mean! Nice work.

Thanks guys. Like I said James one wire at a time. GG that coolant was from when I pulled the coolant hoses of the intercoolers not the valley gasket. I thought somebody might pick up on that.
I got your email, but I don't remember you saying anything about when you'll start producing/selling and if you've got instructions written yet.

M5james I still haven't got any pictures of your engine bay but from what I've seen the 7 series doesn't look like
it has enough clearance for the intake plumbing. Here is a pic of mine and it's fairly tight.
I'm not sure if you've taken pics of the factory intake runner on still for reference, but I'll take pics in both the X5 and 740 using a common reference point to see if that'll help. Just like I said in my email though, I had to massage the firewall in my Harley F150 to install the Kenne Bell SC, so I don't mind doing the same in the X5 or 740. Not that this is a good comparison, but that Jens guy made his Stage 1 kit using just factory Jag parts and adapters like yours and he has pics of installation in 5, 7 and 8's.

m5james has a strange mental condition which prevents him from starting his own threads but he's posted tons and tons of good info on it, just threadjacking on a couple other peoples only semi-related threads (if you use the word "supercharger" anywhere in a thread, he feels that makes it the proper place to post his story/pix). makes it hard to find, but he's a weird stubborn cat and refuses to help us out w/ his own thread.
ballbustin aside, he has posted a lot of good stuff and been totally 1000% straight up about his whole story, just scattered it in that series of threadjacks - so search under his posts / username and you'll find tons of pix and story of his interactions with the dude. he put his money on the table and unlike a lot of people who'd be ashamed to admit it, has told his whole story about what a disaster it turned out to be.
but bottom line - that 'Jens' kit is an ugly disaster, he got ripped off by the guy (all assurances of support and refunds turned out to be BS). at least one other US guy was out there who bought the kit and obviously discovered the same and had it for re-sale on eBay as part of trying to get his money back, but that should all be detailed in the various posts if you can find them. it's an absolute no-go / stay-away situation.

Since this thread is about Toolman2's kit, I'm going to assume you're asking directly about his kit. Feel free to PM him as I'm not sure if he's releasing his pricing yet and/or a release date. I know he's waiting for measurements of my engine bay for E38 and E53 fitment.
Yes, I posted links to past threads, not to drag my story into this one, but to highlight the point that Toolman2's is above and beyond the shit that Jens made.
- - - Updated - - -
Yes, I get it...besides the standard Dinan/VF and their use of the Vortech V2SQ, I have commented and tried to keep all the supercharger threads somehow linked to each other for the simple fact that there's so little information out there directly related to our platform. I like being organized and not spreading the information thin into bits and pieces vs every other thread out there that gets regurgitated over and over and over and over, littered with information and opinions, both wrong and right. As I said above, I've simply posted links in this thread (not pics, everyone can read them if they choose) as a compliment to Toolman2 to simply highlight the great differences in quality.

Thanks for doing that James. Though I won't promise I'll busting your stones about it ;^) , you know I'm a supporter of your whole attitude towards giving it a try and the fact you shared so much info so comprehensively esp after it turned out badly etc. That's pretty helpful for those who didn't follow your whole story way back when. I'd love karma to turn out that you were able to be one of the early-adopters / beta-testers of a great kit that worked out well...

Been meaning to get around to making this setup for the charger I have upstairs, but everything else keeps getting in the way. Nice work! Any production plans? Need any production assistance?
The rear wall is plastic and tapers rearward, so I'm not sure how helpful these pics are. Nevertheless I wanna get this kit whenever you're ready to start selling.

James it's hard to tell in the pictures. It looks like the air-conditioning lines and especially the heater coolant lines might give trouble. I'm making the kits and they work great on the e39 but might work with your e38.
