UPDATE: after thinking about it and my buddy brain washing me with his e30 M3 vert build, I fully committed to doing some serious restoration. I'll be funding most of it by parting ways with my m3. Kinda sweet and sour but I honestly feel that my e23 deserves to be a neck breaking sedan. the only prt that sucks is tryna source out parts and finding someone to possibly to a motor rebuild and/or wire tuck.

    update

Well after building some time to wrench on the 745i and get it running again I decided to snap some whatever pics to show you all. Once going through in and out of the e23 I realized that my initial problem was my ignition switch! After swapping it in less than a hour I got her running again. (S/O to Eric) I didn't know a blackberry and a long distance kall to Texas got the job done w no issues. I gotta double check what I paid but I got the part from RockAuto shipped within 3 days! Now the problem I'm dealing with now is the alternator because kar keeps dying out. Got the part out but now I gotta put the pulley back together and drop it back in. Mind you, it's been a week now. lol hopefully soon I get it done be please believe all black people procrastinate smh

Not sure if that's the model but I originally grabbed one from orielly and it was only 80 amps. But I took it back and got a more expensive one with 120 amps from autozone. (Special order) it was like $194 w/o core.

Yeah that sounds like an equivalent, its listed as a saab 9000 alternator which is what the AL129X belongs to.

Oh yes, we went around and around on the phone with his auto stores to find the AL129X. Still worth it in the end for a unit with more capacity. I have been using that model on cars for years.

Over heated the 745i while I was racing a week back. Stupid radiator hose flew off while I was at a high rev going damn there 90mph. I did win but I took a big lose as well. I'm going to be pulling it apart to see if it's redeemable and if it's not I'm going to do a full part out and begin my quest for another. If anyone is Intrested please email llbooljames@gmail.com or on here . Doesn't matter. I delt with the infamous non start issue with her so I did slap a few fresh things on it. Reference sensors, high amp alternator, ignition switch and battery (wich I'll prolly keep) are still fresh and may still have box for them. Will part turbo kit off ,front bumper, rear bumper and BBS air dam. I also have these cheesy coilovers I got with lowering springs (not sure of brand) that I'm willing to get rid of too for cheap.

Ouch! Now, gauge pegged or you engine seized. There is a big difference in my experience with M30's, over heated my old e28 535i motor to the red line (once due to failed coolant fan while heating car up to drive in the winter, and once because I had a leak in the Thermostat housing gaskets and it was giving a leak there upping coolant temp due to lack of pressure but overall system ran at normal operating temperatures. And no problems after another 2 years of it being on the road after that in my ownership nor in 2 years of a buddy's owning it.

M30's are pretty durable engines, unless you seized it I would bet the worst you did was slight head warp which can get decked flat

I tried to wait a few min for the motor to cool down before trying to replace the coolant because I didn't want to put room temp coolant in a steaming hot motor because I was tryna prevent the block it's self from cracking and what not but I still feel like I didn't wait long enough. I based my judgment on the gage on the dash but when I drove 2 miles home I had to keep stopping because the temp will jus shoot straight back up into the red even w a while the coolant was topped off.

Engines gunna be fine i bet. You have a TON of places prone to air pockets and since all your coolant boiled out its likely that that is what is happening. Jack the front end of the car up and let it idle with the bleeder screw open, squish the hoses by hand to force extra flow slowly, and wait till it stops bubbling out of the bleeder.

Itll need to get hot and any air means the coolant isnt pressurised as much, so the coolant in there has room to expand and turns to vapor and that gives a false high temp rating. Keep next to it and keep an eye on the gauge and engine bay to see if its steaming out anywhere besides the bleeder screw but it should be fine.

M30's are a nightmare to bleed the cooling system on without a vacuum filler setup. Took my old 535 5 days of 45+ miles and two 25 mile hill runs to get air out when i first bought it and flushed the coolant myself not knowing as much about cars as I do now.

    Agreed on the air.

I always use the upper radiator hose to prefill the radiator and prefill the motor...then reattach hose. Next, I fill up the expansion tank and start car with cap off to run for a while. Works for me.

I highly doubt you killed your engine. I would say at the very worst you could have warped the head which, someone correct me if I'm wrong, you could get it re-decked and slap it back on with a new head gasket and be good to go. I'm sure the overheating is just air trapped in the system...

But if you do part it out I'll want some exterior molding.

Back again reviving a 84’ 745 in a non running condition. Tank recently cleaned out and new replacement ECU was included. Let’s see how long this will take to get it cranked up...

Nice!! I would take off that front air dam for a clean sleek look. Keep it original.

My car looks like crap so I'm interested if you decide to part with it. I missed out buying that last one you had for sale.

    Good luck, keep us posted.

Borderline killed. Head severely warped and block needed decked too. Needed more than hg unfortunately. Oil coked bad in all passages. This wasn't from PO but several older owners that didn't maintain oil.

Also, is this car factory red?? Cardinal Red? I have never seen a factory red one. What does the paint tag read by the fuse box? Also, last seven of VIN so we can figure out neat options.

Factory rear spoiler will be on build sheet. It is pre 10/84 as has early style factory sport wheel! We can check for option code 440, that means Executive trim.

You are missing a clamp on the hump hose between intercooler outlet and venturi pipe! Why is the TPS and what not disconnected, the idle switch needs to be there or it will run fat at idle.

Think it is a factory Red car, remember seeing images of the car when it was on CL, also, underhood looks to be same color, deep into the engine bay- unless they did a complete respray with engine/trans pulled.

I don't remember seeing the key components of the excutive option when car was on CL but interior looked decent.

This, and is that a reference sensor poking up? I thought the last owner had/got it running...
