Also guys how accurate are the sport display my nbt is out of an f10 when I put my fit down it registers just over 160hp and 330nm torque I expect it to be lower as it's old but that is only 10hp over half the factory hp..?
Hi guys strange question but does anyone know if these emulators/adapters work with the 2014+ nbt business nav?
Bump

Gotcha - anyone know the differences? I have just bought one to try and BR claim their adapter support it it will be back on eBay if not. It's just that I can't make the most of rtti connected drive or the dash integration hud integration etc that nbt offers so maybe this does everything I nees

Paul, looking through te thread did you ever get to the bottom of DSP and NBT volume issues? When mine comes on I usually have to turn volume up and the slider get higher and higher up?
I had a thought but not brave enough to try it yet, I already run an amp for my sub so not using stock subs. Could I get 4 3way crossovers wire the components in from the dsp output and drive them from the nbt itself as long as stereo is set along with internal amplifier?
Cheers
Yes, turn volume down all the way beyond when it sounds silent, then turn it up, or code the nbt to top_hifi for the audio_system.
Don't run them off the internal amp, just do the steps I mentioned above and it will sound great. Internal amp needs to be on no matter what for us since we don't have a MOST amp.

Hi Paul done all that but the volumes it comes on at are different all the time like sometime 3/4 slider is 1/2 volume other times if I turn all the way down I get 1/2 slider 1/2 volume. I have it set to top hifi quality is good have tried amplifier internal and external not much difference but not Most obviously the third option but the different volumes is just annoying that all... cheers

Ok cool so if I code the slider off I won't even notice i suppose.

Does having the amp set to internal or external make much difference I assume dsp does the amping? As long as it's not set to most?

Out of curiosity how accurate are your sport displays? Mine starts at showing around 160hp and when you put the foot down the gauge opens to 640hp but I can only hit just over 160hp on it even though I have a 4.4 v8 280bhp ? I imagine it's lost some power but over a third seems a lot and it doesn't feel slow

Ok, literally sat down to creep the forums and check bookface.....4 hours later, I'm still here reading this AMAZING thread....I don't want to go to a new bimmer (body's are getting worse and worse looking IMHO) but I WANT iDrive.....this is craziness and I LOVE it!
I wanna do this to both my E38/9....But I haven't seen anything of a parts list for any of this?
Would it be possible to make up some basic parts lists off of what NBT you want? Like 1st gen, ID4/5/6 Evo, etc?
Most I've gotten from all this is get the Retrofit components from the Legend they call "Mick" lol, and the bezels for both the 38 and 39......An F10 screen, which I believe is the 10.2" screen (right?).....but what would be at this point a good NBT HU to start off with? As much as I'd love an EVO, for 2 cars just totally not in the budget with other things going on with them. Maybe some part numbers, a one post break down of compare/contrast of each "line" if you will of each NBT (features/pros/cons)??
I'm in the US, so being that I'm interested in the Sat Radio, I'm going to want to find a US market donor (easy enough)...but I want to make sure that while I'm gathering components for my installs, I get components that are actually compatible with one another....seems like the F10 screens are the commonly compatible component of everything. I guess as a newb to this and reading 70 some pages tonight, I've probably taken in two years of trial and error and R&D too fast and didn't retain as much as I probably should have....
Any pointers and suggestions would be great!
Thanks for all your hard work!

Paul - on the sound thing - I think I may have a problem car always start no sound until I turn it up - did I need to have the volume up on the dip before I removed the old system? if so this isn't good as I've sold most of the old bit :-/
MN2K740i -
I've just done this in a RR so the part list will be similar.
You need :
An emulator and a loom - two options Micks which is the carsytems setup or the Bimmerretrofit. The BR adapter (which I have) WAS quite a bit cheaper but had some features missing (no dynamic reverse lines or speed limit info to the KOMBI) just looking at the current prices by the time you make a loom (which you have to do with the BR ones) and messed about the price difference is negligible so currently I'd go with Micks adapter. If I recall it has the whole loom included that you will need. the only additional wiring you will then need is the 4meter HSD cable (for USB port) a USB port($20 from Bmw new) and 5m LVDS cable I think around $60-70 for both cables I sourced from eBay.
You will also need to get comfortable with BMW esys for coding - either diy or I think mick and other members can help maybe at a cost.
Finally the main hardware. I went for :
HW31 NBT unit (not evo) which had DAB (no Sirius here our very rough HD music equivalent)
F10 10" screen
touch controller. (no touch module yet though not sure if I really need it)
Bezelwise I didn't need this as the f10 bezel with the sides chipped off is a near perfect fit on the RR - you will probably want one or to try and fashion one.
Hope that helps.

Ok so does the dsp amp always come on at the same volume then?

Awesome, I had already decided to get the emulator and stuff from Mick/carsystems seeing as Mick provides great support for it here in the group, and have read some of the issues with the BR set up. Its pretty clear that his kit is the best to use and sounds like too has the most functionality. HW31 sounds like that's the newest hardware around for a none evo unit, correct? If I sacrifice the Sirius radio option, I did locate an evo set up for what I believed to be a decent price ($700's USD), but I'm kinda Leary buying from China/lithuania....but sat radio is nice but haven't had it for years, I could continue to live without. Touch would be kinda cool, but at the same time, I hate wiping finger prints off my phone screen as it is, I don't wanna do it in my car too lol.
