So the EVO units all seem to be Euro with DAB radios. Does that mean it won't support HD-Radio in the US?
Yeah that's why I thought of it.....hmm give up mirrorcast, or give up HD Radio.
DAB would work for me i guess since our cars use the BM53 here. correct?

Oh, no Sirius either? I guess that would be a no go then. I'll have to get a non evo model when I do this lol.
Yeah that's what I meant. Looking at Ebay I didn't see a single US EVO listed.
So I just scoured all the listings thoroughly and there actually some US EVO's on eBay, from Germany. Not sure how they got there or if they would be any different than buying a US one from the US

But pricing is too high right now.

Hmm strange, yeah you can get a euro model for like 1k or less so that's definitely more than I'd want to spend. I like Sirius but....not for that kind of money lol.

Are the EVO units faster hardware wise? Or is it just the newer features mainly. I do like the smaller chassis of the main unit though.
Yeah they're supposed to be faster.

I'm not sure they're much faster. The ID4 units seem basically the same, other than being slightly smaller than the older units. Maybe the ID5/6 units are faster, but honestly, I don't notice the older NBT units being slow, so I'm not sure how you could see them going faster.

Yes ID4 is a little bit faster than 1st Gen NBT, barely noticeable though.
ID5, 6 are a good bit faster than ID4 and 1st Gen NBT. This is mainly because of software since the hardware is the same.
1st Gen NBT is not exactly slow anyway, but latest ones are a good bit faster, especially to load Navigation and other functions.

Is it possible to flash the first gen NBT with an ID4/5/6 firmware?
Seems like the hardware are somewhat capable.
I read from a guy from bimmer tech it was possible, then when I asked specifically they told me it was not.
I knew it was fishy cause the 1st gen NBT do have different hardware, they use an Intel CPU, NVIDIA graphics etc etc, while EVO does not
So if you were to flash EVO, which has an ARM CPU, different graphics etc, you would brick the 1st GEN NBT, unless you have the full uncompiled file system from EVO and are able to add new devices drivers and recompile the Kernel for Intel CPU etc.
Short answer : NO

I've got the 10 inch screen - NBT HU - Idrive controller - TRSVC and two cameras.
No emulator and cables yet.
Planning to retrofit this on my E53.
Due to members here having different issues......I've been holding off.
Go with the CarSystems adapter from Mick 100%
I have both adapters, the BR one is garbage. No R&D done whatsoever.
