Hi folks, I have been through this thread and I am planning to do the NBT install in my E39 M5, I have a few questions for anyone that might have done the same.
My car came with the old Motorola phone in the armrest (which I have since removed) so I think that means I already have a microphone in the headliner. Can I re-use that wiring or do I need to route a specific cable from the NBT wiring harness through to the same microphone?
How are people physically mounting the NBT units in an E39? I have the DSP and nav computer in the trunk, will it just bolt onto an existing bracket or did you need a custom bracket?
I'm guessing you need a separate antenna for DAB right? If so where does that get installed and is it easy?
Where are people fitting the USB input in the cabin? I have seen one in a TrafficMaster fascia, mine just has the regular cupholders in that slot. Any other good/easy places to mount it.
Regarding the screen, I want to put mine in the centre console to replace my existing 16:9 display. Does the NBT screen screw in place or is it just held there by the custom bezel? Do you need some kind of foam padding on it to stop it rattling in there?
I understand that the NTB will use my phone's data to update maps, etc. but has anyone managed to get a genuine ATM unit with the 3year vodafone SIM in it and actually get it working?
Finally can any E39 owners share how they routed the NBT wiring harness to ensure it reached all the places in the cabin that it needs to?
Thanks for any help,
Charlie
Nice. Thanks for the reply.
I've been thinking about the location of the controller...and been simulating it in my car. The cubby hole location does not work for me as I'm quite small and I sit up max to the front, so its quite hard for me to bend my hand back to cubby hole location.
I'm thinking of removing the ashtray, and relocating the door lock and hazard light location vertically. Then I'll use BMWPlanetDude's controller bezel next to it. I reckon I can make it work.

First step into the project...just bought an E70 CIC controller centre console panel on ebay.
Looks promising as the base for the controller has clips that the controller will just click into. Cost me just $27 for the panel used.

Yep seen this one before, probably the best possible integration using the e70 trim, in the e46, e53 too.

No the Touch controller does not actually fit straight
You need to remove the surround of the TOUCH controller first, then you need to cut off those clips. I kept 3 small ones on this and cut everything else at the trim level.

Oh I thought I could just remove the surround of the controller and click it into place. I saw the clips on the side...does it not work that way? Because I saw in E70 they dont have that surround

Thought I'd put some pics of my install in my e39.

Yeah I saw your post on BMW5 UK forums. Love the way you relocated the lock and hazard buttons to the roof too but I'm putting it next to the controller vertically
He relocated to the roof lining behind the lights where the mic is

Your current situation is not your final destination
I can't, for the life of me, figure out to install the screen bezel. What did you guys do? It's just not fitting no matter how I try to put it in. Could my leather dash be much thicker to stop it? What did you trim off the monitor and did you keep the stock bracket inside?

Can't comment on the bezel from Germaniks but mine is a modified/custom one I made using the original f11 bezel so screen clips in as it would do in that. I left the original cage in place but modified it to the shape of the back of monitor so it's more of a support now than anything. And if you loosen the screws of the lower dash there is a bit of play/adjustment there that can help with fitting
I had a similar idea a while back and made this digital mock up:

I'm definitely digging the approach you took by reusing the F10/11 bezel, that way you also don't get any "frame leaks", where you might potentially see the aluminum part of bezel, well done.
Good call on loosening the dash, I didn't think about that, I'll look into it.
