I have not tested it personally, but it should.

BMW iBus RR were from 2002 to 2004. If your RR is a 2005 model with Touch screen, then this is no BMW system, then NBT won't work unless you go for the generic iBUS enabling module, with probably no support for steering wheel buttons. Then this Logic7 amp won't work either. This has to be a BMW TOP HIFI AMP end of story. Not Range Rover, not Rover and whatever else
    .
If you want Top HIFI From a F series, then any TOP HIFI will work. Keep in mind none of the time domain settings can be adjusted. And that like you pointed out to me before, is an issue unless it comes from a car that has the same dimensions as your car. But will be nearly impossible. a 10 cm variation can make a big difference in hearing the rear speakers or not.
Just waste of time here in my opinion. Just go aftermarket amplifier or two with standalone DSP processor. Will be far superior to the TOP HIFI Harman Kardon any day anyway.

    Hi,

I had a meeting with the local to me specialist capable of making high quality low number production batches of products. Making a bezel for holding the TFT panel in the E39 oem head unit location can easily be done with their on site capabilities. I mentioned this project and it's 'relative' low numbers of potential owners going for it and in response their minimum batch they'd do would be for 20 pieces. The next stage would be the design and CAD work needed. Without some initial design or drawings it's hard to get accurate costs, however I did get some 'ballpark' figures.

CAD/Design work - 'Around' the £800-1000 level (this currently equates to about $1215 to $1518 USD)
Individual Unit - 'Around' the £150-175 level (this currently equates to about $227 - 265 USD)

This would be using the correct automotive grade materials/plastics/resins and automotive grade finishing paints to ensure a very high quality product/item.

With seemingly 3 different TFT screens themselves then the reverse side of the bezel will need a method of mounting all 3 so an arrangement of shapes to do that needs to be incorporated. If there's any small sizing discrepancies then the end owner would need to use some packing material to hold the monitor in place. If it turns out there's shape and curvature differences between each potential monitor that can be used, then 3 CAD designs will need to be developed. The E46 is a totally different shape and size so this would absolutely require it's own specific piece designed.

Whilst in the meeting, I also asked about the potential about 'extending' the bezel to a full fitting kit/frame to hold the NBT unit itself in the oem dash location. This of course would increase complexity in terms of the design but it is possible. Without more information I couldn't get a ballpark on doing this ! plus, seeing as the NBT is 'sort of' traditional double DIN sized, it looks like the cabin airbox needs to be modified to make the space for it. This will increase costs if an owner doesn't have the skills or confidence to do this mod and add's I'd say £200-250 to the cost of the whole project - over in the US, I'd say a reputable shop that knows what it's doing and doesn't mess up the airbox's internal airflow flaps will charge a similar sort of amount - say in the region of around $250-400 USD.

I will ask at another specialist I know of and compare. I can then update here for you guys.

Is there any interest in perhaps taking this idea forward? So far in the thread there's perhaps 7 to 10 members seemingly already in midst of this mod or about to start with a few 'might do' members.

    Cheers, Dennis!

Interesting Dennis but this mostly sorted out for cheaper price. Custom design indeed is not cheap and while this is probably a very good deal overall, very little people here will pay 400 USD for a bezel after spending 2000 bucks more or less on a NBT system for their e38, e39...

I have e46 sorted out already. Both e39 and e46 fascia are going for molding and fine sanding/painting on Monday. So I can get these made very quick.

Send pricing to me if you would via PM, Mick. Will the fascia for E39 have a mount as well? Mine is held in with some poorly fabricated but secure home-brew mounts.

Yeah e39 has metal mounts glued on the back. So they reach the original dash screws behind sidr trims.
Pricing is the same i sent already.

e38 owners with 16:9 screen please send me your surround trim!!!!
    Cheers

What about the E38 controller mount? That's my main concern at this point.

Damn that picture has made excited. That big screen look gorgeous and I agree the control has to go there. I don't see any other way.

Yeah ideally, the problem is the crap behind the trim.

Theres plenty of depth, but its not wide enough. For those with autos, you can just cut into the plastic shifter trim. Manual guys have the leather boot to deal with.

    Here's my attempt.

I'll put some more fiberglass where that top hole is and use a small self tapper to hold it up top. Then just fiber in the bottom edge.

Bringing it to an upholsterer to have it wrapped in leather. Possible stitching in the corners.

I like that it is less clunky than the others I saw yet but for my taste I would stil try to get it little bit more flat.

That looks the tits for sure. Just not sure how to execute. Can the controller be separated in halves? Or do the buttons conect directly to the board?

There is gaps with the screen, but now if you get this wrapped with leather, gaps should disappear as they are very small.
Can't blame you for trying, let us know how do you get on.

You should use hot glue gun to hold the screen behind instead of fibre glass and a self taping screw. A lot mess messy.

Gaps were left there on purpose to allow for the leather to wrap around.
Ive tried using hot glue before on other projects, but I find that the interior temps in a car can get hot enough to re melt the glue.

I use hot glue all the time, not an issue. In fact all my NBT retrofits in e6x/e7x/e9x have the radio buttons panel hot glue to the trim since it can not be attached to the NBT. Never had any issue. You were probably using low grade glue.
Gaps are from the screen itself and the radio trim.

I used a auto detail clay bar to hold my monitor in place. Good job on the bezel btw.

I love the ring of light around your controller, really nice!

My controller doesn't light up at all, don't know why. Haven't tried testing it either.
