I think only volume and obc functions perhaps, but no audio controls.

The OBC yes, that is all done by the IKE.
The radio controls, I don't know, depends on how well the NBT->I-bus interface emulates the radio.
Blackknight is probably right, since the volume control goes directly to the DSP amp.

I know for a fact the volume works because it works on the old bordmonitor. No other buttons on the bordmonitor worked though because it relied on the nav computer and radio module. The mid doesn't though.

Also, I'm not sure if the volume knob would work on non-dsp.

There's a whole lot more discussion in the E39 version of this thread. You should check that out instead.

This page has been quiet for quite a while, but just wanted to post, I'm just about ready to start my install too.

Just waiting to get this back from hydro-dip. They haven't shot the final clear or final buff in these pics, but can't wait to see it.

That is with the flash being on and the next for "in the dark" without flash.

Quick question to those who fabricated their own console, this one is aluminum and I am trying to figure out how to attach the various "brackets" from the wood console to this one, so they don't just pop off because the glue dries?

That is nice. So do you already have a bracket for the controller to attach underneath the trim? or that's what you have to figure out?

Also what did you pay for your NBT components? or did you get CIC?

Got the bracket, but trying to figure out how I'm going to attach it, the shift indicator, brackets for hazard and lock buttons and finally the cubby that goes under the armrest. They all have mounting "brackets" that screw into the wood on the underside of the stock console, but this isn't wood. Hence my dilemma.

PM'd you about who I purchased from. It came complete with console too.

I haven't kept up with the latest, but I know a few months ago there were a few issues. The same thread was started in the 5 series forum and is more developed than this one. I suggest checking that out for the latest status: https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...in-E39-E38-E53

I cannot find a good diy for this with a parts list (I have a 96 without I-bus line to trunk) and what the various options for the head unit (E38).
I pulled the wiring harness from a 2000 but am not even sure if I will need it, the nav/radio/cd changer/amp?

Edit, well got the carpet out but still not sure if i should replace harness with the one from the 2000 or just run a few more lines like a cat5e or similar?
