Nice! Congrats Kris! AND you're in the Bay... Bringing her to the Mfest meet in Benicia on the 16th? Cool to see another one in our area. There are a lot of Msports here in the Bay.

Went and looked at GN92673 for Maineiac today! Clean Car. Needed timing chain guides and a few seals. But other than that very well maintained by one dealer most of its life. Bay Area car. Few cosmetic issues but no accidents what so ever. Clean Carfax. Gray on gray. 1 of 15 car. 109k miles. $11990. About $3k too much if you ask me. But we'll see if Maineiac wants it.

707, I'll try to make the meet, depending if anything comes up.
I went to see that car last week. It was on consignment in Burlingame. The owner of the car told the consignment shop to tell everyone that the price was non negotiable. Consignment shop manager said he was given offers at $9,500 and $10,000 and the owner still refused. Just a heads up...
yeah, consignment sales are kind of tricky because some dealers ask for a lot of money as part of consignment, so owners will often overprice their cars to prevent losing money.
if it needs the timing chain guides its definitely not worth top dollar, not even close, even if the rest of it seems nice
Looking for an e39 Touring black carpet set, including the rear cargo cubbies and side sections!
ALSO looking for 540i 6speed manual transmission sets (2001+ pedals with switches, driveshaft, gearbox), for the 6speed swap! Probably not for a while....

Agreed. I forgot also to mention that the owner of that consignment place/ which is also a shop said that they did about $3000 worth of repairs recently. I realize we're getting s little off topic with the registry part of the thread, just want to make sure whoever is looking at it knows as much info as possible.
Yes ... And included in that $3k ... Wasn't Timing Chain guides. Heard them at idle upon warm start up. And I told Zim the owner of Topline Automobile's in Burlingame.... If the owner really wants to sell the car... They need to repair the timing chain guides and all the leaks. Then they can get $12-13k out of it. But not until then. It's just going to take up space on his lot. He agreed and said he will forward on the info to the owner.
The car needs some cosmetics: paint correction, a bunch of scuff repair/repaint, a couple trim pieces, and a dash lens(I dunno how they broke that, maybe reinstalling after pixel repairs?), and a headlight lens restore.
Someone could have a REALLY damn clean Touring for just under $15k.
More pics of GN92528.
So.....I may be looking to sell my '03 540 msport wagon but I'm trying to figure out a fair value. I dont NEED to sell the car and not 100% sure if I want to so I'm not looking to give it away by any means.
2003 540 M sport wagon
14X,XXX miles
Silver on black
All stock
The good:
All new cooling system (spal electric fan replacing the mechanical)
All new(er) brakes, including front soft lines
New rear air springs
New plugs and coil packs
Brand new Interstate battery
Brand now alternator
New headlight adjusters
I have the stuff to change the trans fluid (not sure when I will get to that)
Not good or bad: Tinted windows and HID's
Not so good:
Sun roof does not work
Hood has been repaired due to mechanical cooling fan failure
Bumper has been repaired (currently has a small crack by tow hook hole)
The car has dents/dings
The car runs and drives great and I absolutely LOVE this car. I am just throwing around the idea of getting something else. If you guys need more info to give me a value or are interested in the car please dont hesitate to ask.
Sorry, newbie here, but what is the difference between these 2003 cars and, say a 2002 540i M-Sport E39 Touring? They appear to be nearly identical to me other than some relatively minor trim pieces. Thanks.
there's no such thing as a 2002 m-sport touring. they were last year ONLY.
there are 2002 sport package tourings, though
the difference between a 2002 sport and a 2003 m-sport is....
-mtech front bumper
-mtech rear bumper
-some m badges in the interior
-black headliner ("anthracite", not alcantara), regardless of the interior color. the two-tone look is really nice with the tan and grey interiors actually
100% cosmetic, no performance components. however when searching for a 540i touring the msports will save you some cash on bumper swaps (those oem bumpers are expensive) and headliner swaps (expensive + a pain in the ass to swap), and msport tourings tend to be owned by enthusiasts and thus better cared for....usually..

Joe summed it up well. Before the M police get here, an M-Sport touring has M bumpers, black (alcantara, I believe) headliner, M 3-spoke steering wheel, Style 66 wheels, M sport suspension, and I believe a few more things. Older sport package cars came with the M steering wheel, lowered ride height, shadowline trim, and larger wheels. Styles vary depending on the car... my 528 came with style 5s.

as far as i know, the sport tourings did indeed have sport front springs and special "sport" rear air springs.....but the msport tourings just had the sport suspension. the sedan msports have special m-sport springs and shocks and roll bars

Thanks! That helps me out as I'm kicking tires looking for a 540i Touring. I looked at the 2003 that Topline is offering in San Mateo, but, as has been pointed out, it has needs beyond the price point. Now I'm looking at a 2002 540i Touring in Davis that has the Sport Package and most options. I was wondering what I was giving up by going back a year and you folks have explained it.
