This is a good point. This goes for any car, really. These numbers we have in this thread are for the 2003 model year, which is the commonly known as the only model year for the M Sport. You have to account for any pre-production or Canadian models, and possible early models as seen here.

Spotted a 1 of 10 Black Sapphire/Black while I was working Legends of the Autobahn during Monterey Car Week. Had a nice chat with the owner of this car, Matt Carver, the shop foreman at Peter Pan BMW here is the SF Bay Area. His car was absolutely spotless. GN92576 definitely deserved to be in the concours event!

I have GN92580, bought back in July. Sapphire on grey, 6spd manual.
'98 M3 5spd - '03 540it 6spd M-Sport
GN92404, Sterling on Black originally, but now with black Nappa interior from an M5 including dash, center console (with matching leather euro armrest/storage bin), front sport seats, alcantara A and B-pillars, and front door panels. Would have done the rear door panels too but wanted to keep my sunshades.

GN92562. decided not to put it thru a buffalo winter.
Is this registry still active?
I saw WBADR63413GN92459 GN92459 today. I would consider this a project car (at least more project than I am willing to take on at this point). I didn't even bother making an offer. The car was warm when we got there, so I think at least one other person walked away from it today.

Pros:
~It's a legit M-Sport Touring.
~From what I can tell, the mileage is accurate, which is incredibly low.
Cons:
~There are a lot of issues not clearly listed or pictured in the CL post.
~At least portions of the car have been repainted, including both bumpers and the hood.
~The rest of the car has paint issues too. I don't know if it was sap, or something like that, that covered the top and hood, but it was cleaned off, but left visible marks, and then some sort of sealant was put over the entire car. It may, or may not, be correctable.
~There is at least one oil leak.
~The left valve cover is cracked and has been repaired with some sort of sealant.
~There is a lot of deferred maintenance, i.e. the drain plugs for the cabin filters is completely full of dirt and crap, the brakes need to be redone and the calipers show the car's time on the East Coast.
~There are rust bubbles starting to show on the edges of some of the trim.
~The pixels on the radio are done.
~The interior is not as nice as pictured.
~Rich, is pretty clueless, or just playing dumb. The listing indicates a clean car fax, but when I asked for it, he said his internet was down, but had no problem texting me back and forth. I asked what he knew about the history of the car, and he claimed it was one-owner, but in reality, there have been three.
I had a different list member run the carfax for me, so if you're interested, let me know. I also have some of my own pictures detailing my claims above - also available for anyone interested.
Thinker Toys
I also saw that 540it. For one thing, the interior was super clean. Yes, the car had some issues which you pointed out, but none of them would have deterred me from buying it. The radio pixels, the cabin filters, oil leak and the valve cover are easy fixes and wouldn't break the bank. The dealer said he would replace the brake pads for free. I saw the car in the daylight and both bumpers appeared to have been repainted to a very good standard. As regards to the sap you mentioned, I don't think it was as I wiped over an area with my finger and some spit and it just disappeared. A good detailer and some paint correction would make that car look brand new. Tires had plenty of tread left and the wheels were basically perfect. All the other cosmetic issues were small (trim can be replaced). Rich gave me a copy of the carfax without hesitation. 11 years in CA with some service records (since '06) and I was okay with it. The thing drove like a champion with no issues whatsoever. Only one problem... when I came back the next day, the car was sold. Clearly someone got a great deal at the price Rich was asking. I'm still kicking myself...

Hi all, GN92572 (black sapphire/grey) here. We need to thin the inventory a bit here in the garage, to raise $ and make room for a newer BMW. So we need to sell either our '00 540i or our '03 540iT... But can't seem to bare to part with either of them. So I'm asking for opinions!
Here's the dilemma: The '00 sedan is totally clean, but has 247,000 miles. It has had all major work done to it, runs nicely but probably wouldn't sell for much more than a set of really nice tires :-(
The Touring is "only" at 147,000 and we've done most of the usual non-engine stuff, but haven't had any vanos etc issues yet. So we know thats coming at some point. Plus the roof/hood paint has oxidized and needs redoing. Setting aside the engine work, we're looking at about $3,000 in paint work, which probably wouldn't add $3,000 to a sale price. Since its sort of a niche item, how well do you guys think the wagon will hold value? Is it worth painting and just holding on?
TODAY: '00 540i Sedan, '03 540i Touring, '84 Jeep Scrambler w/trailer, '02 R1150GS w/DTC Sidecar, '07 R1200GSA. RIP: 1983 528e, 1992 740i, and a bunch of non-BMWs... TOMORROW: ???
Sell the sedan keep the wagon, only 23 Blk / Saph made helps, sounds like you have all the major work still to do, TCGs, cooling system overhaul will be needed sooner or later. Do paint last if you keep it, having the work done wont be cheap, that will be an issue to an informed buyer and will effect actual sales price. If you decide to sell dont ask stupid prices when it will be needing major work. Its a fine line, if I had that car id keep and fix. Right price needing work should be easy to sell. There only 182, that can make a difference to right buyer. Bottom line its the better of the two if you decide to sell one of them...and the black even with paint issues is a nice problem to have...but better to keep it...

If anyone wants to buy a true M sport Ti silver on grey with 97k miles, immaculately maintained and originally owned by actress Jennifer Garner with the original title, let me know. I was going to buy it but we don't need the extra car right now. I have known the current owner for 4 years. The current owner bought it from JG in 05 with 10k miles.
Certainly keep the wagon. the value of true M techs, i believe, will only be going up and up.
It's not mine.
Asking price?
yeah,deets? 540, manual? cost?
I dunno why people care so much about the 03 M-Sport wagons... you can take a 2001-2002 540it with the sport package and swap the bumpers/headliner/door sills on for a fraction of the price. It's just an appearance package. But hey, if people are willing to pay for it, that ain't my problem, haha.
