    I'm Obsessed!!

First off, I'm new here to the forum and hope to learn a lot. The first car I learned to drive on was my moms 1982 BMW 320i, she has always said that her favorite can was a BMW, we had that car for a few years until it started spending more time in the shop than on the road, not so much due to mechanical issues, just older brothers that like to drive hard into things thus requiring body work...
I have been a loyal Ford truck man for many years, and always thought I would just keep with this Mfg. Fast forward to this past Friday and after doing some research, I purchased my first BMW, a 2012 535i xDrive, fully loaded, not a scratch on it with 15k miles (got a great deal), all I want to do is drive it, I offer too run to the store for my wife an neighbors and find myself back at work today thinking about driving it, I can't wait until Lunch so that I can go for a ride, I have spend most of the AM researching various topics on the car and not sure if this is a healthy obsession... :eyecrazy
I finally understand why my mom has always said that her favorite car Mfg is BMW, I hope that I learn a lot of information here and look forward to many years as a loyal BMW fan and sharing in my mothers view that this is indeed the best car out there!

Welcome to BMW and a very Good choice my friend, your mum knows what she's on about.. Bmw is easily the best car manufacturer.
I've also been jumping in and out of BMWs since a kid starting with my dads 1985 BMW 320i saloon which was brand new at the time and a pleasure to be in.
Since I passed my test I've had nothing but BMWs and I've probably had every model.
I'm no mechanic or anything but have had so many of these cars so know a bit about their common faults, performances, engines etc.
Hope you enjoy your BMW and it IS the ultimate driving machine

I just picked up my pre-owned CPO 550i - Fully loaded sans xDrive. I'm chomping at the bit to drive it. Currently getting the customer care package overhaul and hoping car is done soon. Best of luck with the 535. It is a great choice.

Welcome. I recently purchased a 2014 535 x-drive M Sport with everything. I purchased it with 11,000 miles on it and was happy with the the deal. I havent driven a BMW for a long time and came out of a Tundra. While I miss the truck (am going to order a new F150) I really, really enjoy the Bimmer.

New to the Scene, need Advice!

I'm new to the BMW scene. Accepted a job offer that will require 2 hours of driving per day, and I decided that I am going to enjoy that 2 hours of driving, which began my quest to find a BMW. I drove my first one last week, a 2004 330i with 185k, and I was hooked immediately. Did not purchase for various reasons, and I'm learning all I can which brings me to this forum. I have some questions regarding reliability after spending a few hours reading many posts and discussions on here.

Are BMW owners just fanatics about maintaining their car in the most premium condition? Or, after 100k miles it is typical for many maintenance items to be taken care of, and it is going to cost serious $$$ compared to the asian market? My expectations are to find a well maintained 10 yr old BMW, and drive it for at least 2 years (50k miles) with no issues but adding gas and changing oil. I'm very easy on cars. I drove a 90 corolla 250k miles and only changed the alternator and battery, plugs, oil and tires. My current 02 Xterra has 180k miles and needs tires, the valve cover gaskets the only item I had to pay to change (besides me doing routine maintenance.)

I do not want to drive the Xterra 100 miles a day, I do not want to buy a cheap toyota etc. either. I understand and have the passion for a "real" car.
I do not understand the hidden ins and outs of the BMW, yet. Why does some post an immaculate "looking" BMW for sale at a good price? Why not keep it?
I mainly want to understand what are the must "dos" before purchasing any used BMW. Reading many of these posts almost makes me want to lease a new one.
I do not have any issue maintaining the car in tip top shape, I just do not want to find a $1500 problem a week after buying my dream car.

I really appreciate the input and advice here. I look forward to being a life long BMW enthusiast!!! Thank you.

Update....my commute to work is about to change dramatically, as I just acquired a 320i, low miles and mint condition. Very excited about owning my first BMW! Am looking forward to visiting this online community and learning as much as I can. :-)
