    Question Oil change interval

I'm at 3.5 years into my 4 year warranty. I bough the car in May 2011, but it was built in October 2010.

For the first three years, the dealer changed the oil in October at the one year interval from the build date. I run 10k miles per year.

This year, the dealer brought it back without the oil changed. They said the spec is 24 months, so they would not get paid. I did some research and found that the spec was changed to one year.

The dealer did some checking and agreed. They did the oil change, but didn't rest the counter. They claim the spec is to not change the counter because that messes up other service.

The counter reads 3800. The dealer says they will change it again at that point - if its still under warranty. If its not warranty, then its on my dime.

    Does this seem right?

    It's screwy, but "right".

At this point, just change it at 10K intervals, using the correct BMW LL-04 oil.

If this is right, then won't the car be asking for an oil change in a few months? I think it pops up a service warning, right? So how does that work?

You can reset it via iDrive or turn signal stalk/menu.

They pulled that sh!! on me too. Been annual changes ~13-15K miles till last December when they said it wasn't a year yet, Funny how now they wanted to change oil in 8000 miles? WRONG! DIY time at 60K as last change was ~45-46K. I'll get a reset tool.

Reset is easy and several You tube videos to show ya. dealership/BMW is trying to drum up business by not resetting oil change indicator after an oil change, plain and simple. No amount of german BS gets around this

After 2 oil changes now, first with Valvoline Synpower 5W-30 and now that I can find Liquimoly LL-04 5W-30 at NAPA and can say that the Liquimoly is definitely a VERY high quality product and no mofe expensive than the others. Motor sounded much happier with this oil! From now on its will be standard issue.
