After years of wincing when driving over rough roads, I've decided to take a stab at routing the charge pipe from the turbo over the subframe. I need to re-do both the turbo inlet pipe, and the charge pipe, so I figured now is the time. Why do I need to re-do the charge pipe?
I changed the turbo....again. The new turbo is capable of delivering over 100 lb/min of airflow, in a GT42 frame size.
This lead to evaluating the intercooler situation, which resulted in a custom order from Bell Intercoolers. (21" X 14.3" X 4.5" core)
PPF is doing a new intake manifold with an M54 based flange, so one of those is currently on order. An M62 throttle body will be mated to this, with new 3" charge piping from the intercooler.
I got tired of using silicone hose connections, so all of the charge pipes will be fastened with LPS Fab couplings. (Sorry Jon, I just don't like Wiggens clamps)
The current Synapse V1 Synchronic BOV is being replaced by a new V3 piece that will be non-recirculating.
On the turbo side, I'll be using two Tial MVS wastage's welded directly to a 1.18 A/R twin scroll exhaust housing. A 4" downpipe will go from the turbo, to a 3" reducer to meet up with my current 3" exhaust system.
The Steed Speed TS manifold will have the WG flange cut off, and then 6 (Six) lambda bungs will be installed. 5 bungs will go on the top surface of the manifold, and cylinder #6 will be installed to access flow from the back corner of the manifold.

On the engine side:
The block is being assembled with new bearings, PPF rods, and 9.5:1 pistons from DP.
All of the timing chains and oil pump chain is being replaced, and I'm adding a tensioner to the oil pump chain.
There are new 11mm Raceware head studs, (I've cycled out the old ones) and a cut-ring head gasket (Athena) is going to be used.
The cylinder head got sent out for all new valve guides, and to have the valve seats re-cut.
I decided to stick with the M54 valve cover arrangement, so a new one of those was ordered. (Was considering the M56 VC) I'm also going to continue to run the OEM ignition coils, as I don't have evidence of them being an issue yet. Time will tell....
This will be the final specification of the engine for a while, as I want to spend more time with my family. That's not to say that I won't be busy doing stuff with the car, but I want to spend less time with it down, and more time out enjoying it. The current specification will easily take me to my current goals, and well into the future with whatever is next....
The ZF transmission isn't going to last long with what I have planned. I really want to keep with an H pattern......being fun to drive is still at the top of my list...even going "slow".
On the turbine side, it's basically the same size as the GTX40.
On the compressor side, it's a custom cover that is very similar to the GTX40 cover. (4" inlet, and 2.5" outlet)
The length of the assembly is slightly longer, so it's possible that I might have to notch the subframe a little bit, but it shouldn't be a big problem.
If you look at a GTX42, PTE7675, or SXE400....the compressor housing would hit the block using the SS TS manifold.

Here's the thing: I have accomplished every goal I have set out for this project. I'm enjoying that more than most people know.
Sure, there's always something "more" to chase, but for me this is what I like to do, and I enjoy sharing that enthusiasm.
It's always been a hobby.
Lets just say I "finished" this car, there would be another one. There is some efficiency in this process in that 1 car is a lot less space than 2.
I just like that you evolved from a GT30 frame turbo to a GT42 frame. Feedback/experience with the whole range!
What is your power goal with the new turbo? I'm looking forward to some pictures of the new set-up.
PPG makes a number of kits for the T56 gearbox.
$10,300 USD gets you a complete set of H pattern guts that are Dog ring, and straight cut.
$6,200 USD is the 1-4 gear dog rings, with standard gears 5 and 6. (This is what GForce offers)
If you want to convert a T56 to sequential:
$15,000 gives you a choice of 10 different gear ratio packages.
If you want what they call a "Quick Change" T56 sequential:
$18,500
All of the above require you to have a T56 core to start with, and you get a "kit" that you will have to install into your core. (Labor extra)
That Racing Channel (Youtube) just took delivery of a PPG Sequential kit for their R32 GTR build. At $16,362 USD....it's a decent commitment...
I actually started with a Garrett T3/T4 60 Trim turbo (500hp) that was part of the Technique Tuning kit.
That was sent away for a rebuild, with a 60-1 compressor wheel added (550hp)
Then I got the GTX3076R (640hp)
Tried the GTX4088R (850hp)
....and now I've got some GT42 based monster on the way. (1100+ HP)
In 2022, I'll probably have a billet M54 block, a GTX55, and some kind of hybrid drive system on board....
You can also use Samsonas parts in a ZF320 housing if you want to spend a lot of money building a trans rather than use off the shelf parts that hold way more power than a stock ZF320 and require much less work and expense but still require some adapter parts, such as the T56 Magnum with adapter bell housing or the ZF GS6-53 that was fitted to 135/335/535 and the same trans but with a different bell housing was used on the twin turbo V8 M5 and M6.

DCT shifts faster than any human and no reduction in boost during shifts and it’s got 7 gears. I think the 6 cylinder bell housing ones may need some work to hold the 800 lbs rwtq that will come with the 1000 rwhp but Dodson and others make clutch kits.
I don't get why people say DCT's are no fun to drive... sure I get rowing your own gears... it's fun, but so is blasting off split second shifts with ignition cut banging away each time you pull the paddle. And as an added bonus you can put it in auto and forget about the traffic jam ahead of you.
Yeah but where's the fun in that?

I had an SMG M3 for about five months and totally appreciated it in traffic. I didn’t like how the computer could let the clutch out smoother than I could. Damn those computers.
