A car collector. Last of the air cooled and now collector cars. I like to drive so I’ll take the 991 — probably a 991.1TT in the next year or two.

For how many sensors you have logging I wouldn't have guessed a 993 over a 991. I would love for you to go DCT as I doubt anyone else will do it to an M54.

Actually understanding how the engine operates does not always correlate to having the newest engine hardware. An aircooled Porsche engine has a distinctive sound that a lot of people love (myself included )

The Mercedes E63 AMG Biturbo AWD is a nice running auto turbo car. The 2018 is incredible but new and expensive.

Yup! all the Bi-turbos are amazing cars. The McLaren MP4-12c is even better!

The DCT in the f10 m5 and f06 m6 are pretty seamless as well.

R35 GTRs are clunky, but at my old shop we built a couple 1,000+ whp, built motor and trans cars that were fabulous.

Also, the EVO X MR with upgraded SST clutches and proper tuning is pretty damn good too. We have a 500whp, quick spooling 2.2L that was more fun to drive than any of the 100s of 5 speed GSRs we built.

As for NA cars, the 991 GT3 an GT3rs are the best automatics I've experienced. Second comes the Ferrari 458.

I would love to report that serious progress is being made, but this is not the case.

Everything has been either delayed, changed, messed up, or forgotten about. And then there is me......sick as a dog the past week....and unwilling to even unpack boxes of parts:

But I did take out the new intercooler:

While it's not entirely evident from the image below, the thermal capacity of the new IC is triple the old one:

    Old Core = 3" X 12" X 18"

    New Core = 4.5" X 14.3" X 21"

What trans is in that? It sounds like powerglide when it leaves but it shifts twice.

    Adam,

So did I read that properly that the car is no longer an automatic or you are moving to a manual?

    Thanks

While I haven't been doing many updates the past few months....there has be a LOT of things going on. Since last August I've been accumulating items that haven't been installed yet...so there is quite a backlog of features to add.

Also, I've really outgrown the space in the shop, so this year we're looking at building another structure on the property to house the non-car related stuff and add storage. This will probably distract me quite a bit...so I'm not sure if I'll have the car on the road in 2018....

I'll have a TIG welder in the shop in June though....

Just caught up on this thread, Adam. Love the pathology writ large! The turbo configuration development is particularly impressive, not to mention your mastery of M1 Build and Tune.

    Best,

    Peter

    Thanks Peter

We've just wrapped up Hockey season with JT. Most of my "free time" has been spent either preparing to go to, driving to, or sitting in rinks.

It seems it was meant to be, as all kinds of stuff didn't line up for work on the car:

The engine was sent to my engine builder, who tears down bottom end and finds that I need new pistons due to cold-start wear on the skirts. I ordered new pistons that were supposed to be drop-in for my bore size. The pistons arrived and were measured out to find that we need to hone the block to make proper clearance. But he doesn't have my torque plate. Project stalled until I get back to North America to deliver my torque plate.

Cylinder head was sent to engine builder for tear-down, and valve seats to be cut, as well as valve guide clearance to be checked. Cylinder head was sent to machine shop for all new valve guides, (Some guides had 6 times allowable free-play) and valve seats to be cut. Only the valve seats are cut on my head, and the engine builder's personal cylinder heads have all of their valve guides replaced! (He wasn't happy) Head was sent back to machine shop to find out that they don't have valve guides available (They told us they would take care of valve guides originally) and now we are waiting on valve guides to be delivered. (I have another source for those looking to not use VAC)

To put this in perspective, the engine was delivered to my engine builder the beginning of January....

On the up side, I decided to switch to King engine bearings in February...which wouldn't have happened if the engine had been finished in January as I was expecting. So I now have much better bearings being used. (Vs uncoated OEM bearings) I also ordered a custom ATI damper which is designed for 1200hp....which should arrive before I start working on the engine in June. The ATI damper that I was running was designed for under 500hp. This saved me from installing the old one...then having to do a swap later down the line which would have been quite a process. I've also been looking at various transmission options....and these delays with the engine have allowed a more detailed approach evaluating options.

This is the one that's currently at the top of my list:
