Odd. I apologize for the fitment issue on the VIS trunk lid, usually aftermarket panels use molds of the oem part. The plate should fit your oem trunk perfectly though. If you have a chance, PM me a picture of where the fitment issue is. Also, Spyke, let me know if you have the same problem with fitment.

Sorry for the delay in reply, A thin coating of silicon on the back side of the plate prior to installation should be sufficient to prevent any condensation buildup between the plates.

So... mine does not fit my carbon trunk either. I have a VIS as well, for reference. I am using all stock latch and lock parts, very carefully measured and transferred over.

Anything we can do about this?

Same thing as me then...The plate did not fit on my VIS carbon trunk but did work on my other e36 which has a factory trunk lid. It was unfortunate that the seller led people to believe this would work by stating it in the for sale thread that it would work with a carbon trunk prior to actually testing it as I lost some money reselling it and the OP did not reach out to me when I posted saying he would take it back and refund me.
Otherwise the product is top notch if you have a factory trunk.

Didn't fit my stock trunk, guess there is something wrong with my car but it's never been wrecked / trunk fitment is perfect. Doesn't clear the inside black plastic surround, has two marks from where the bolts hit now when you try and close it.

I apologize for the delay in posting on the forums. The holiday season has left me a bit stretched.

I did see and reply to Samgrant951's email about the fitment issue on the plastic. This shouldn't happen under normal circumstances however if it does, its likely due to one of the "feet" on the clips being broken. Another possible cause is if the striker panel (behind the plastic) begins to separate from the rest of the body due to rust (common area).

VIS and other aftermarket parts manufacturers generally follow oem tolerances. It's possible that they added additional material to this area to either address the trunk failure issue or it may have been an oversight.

Due to these fitment issues, if anyone was unable to install their plate, email me at dthompson.productions@gmail.com and I can either send a partial/full refund on the purchase. Please include a few pictures (if possible) and the paypal email which you paid with.

After the first batch sold out I've been making them in larger batches so I can assure anyone interested that they'll be shipped within 1 day of ordering.

Also Working on a flush fit kit for anyone who needs additional clearance for any reason. To test fitment, place 3-4 pennies (approx. 1.5mm thick each) on the plastic to the left and right of the trunk latch. In most cases, there should be approx. 7mm of clearance (4 pennies) however, if there is less than 6mm clearance (where 3 fit and 4 do not), a flush kit will be needed.
