    Agreed.
Did some mock up with the BMW mounts and it's a no go. At least it would be a lot of effort to make them work so Ford mount it is.
I have a mount drawn up to work with the Ford mount. Just need to grab some steel from the local place before they close at noon then I can get to work.

    Just OEM Nav.
Interior needs a lot of cleaning. Previous owner loved to eat in the car and was messy. There were fries all over the bottom of the driver's seat. Add a summich and you could make a McDonald's kid's meal.
Seats are currently out of the car so that I can shampoo the carpets.

I saw your post in Thaniel's thread that you were able to get the oil temp gauge/tach lights working on the M cluster, that's awesome! I've been meaning to work on it when I find the time. The only other thing I'd like to get working is the cruise control buttons on the steering wheel. Right now I'm using some Rostra buttons for cruise.

Hi Lenny, I think it is doable. I assume you would have to take the info from the LS and inject it into the K-bus. An OBD to K-BUS gateway of some sort should work.

Got some work done on the trans cross-member but did not get it finished.
Here is rough sketch of what I have in mind for the mount.

I started by making the center section, or the "little metal couch" as the girl called it.

First measured the bolt spacing on the Ford mount. Here is a neat trick for measuring a bolt pattern. It works if the bolt (or bolt holes) being measured are the same diameter. Measure one bolt then zero the caliper. Next measure the bolts, end to end. The measurement you see will be the distance between the centerline of the two bolts. In my case, 3.128". I marked the position for the holes on the plate, center punched it, then drilled the holes.

    Not bad!

Next I bent the plate to match the angles on the mount, then added a back plate and two side plates. There is plenty of space between the plates and the rubber mount itself.

Once everything was lined, I tacked the plates then sewed them all together.

Next up will be tying the little metal couch to the chassis. I think I'll use some 1-1/4" tubing I have.

    Nice tip using the calipers.
You must have a nice heavy duty break to bend that steel plate.

I always love your threads, and this one looks like it will continue the trend of awesomeness -- Fantastic looking fabrication on those mounts!!!

What are your plans for the engine build? An LS 427 e39 M5 sounds like one phenomenal idea.

I wouldn't call it heavy duty but it works for my needs. 1/4" steel plate is the max thickness it'll take. I use it on a 20 ton HF press.

Nothing too crazy. Just looking for something with decent torque and more importantly, great street manners. It has to be something I can deal with on a daily basis. More details to come.

Are you using the same motor as I have or going with aluminum block?

I finally had a chance to fabricate the rest of the transmission mount this evening.
Tack welding the pieces together while laying on my back underneath the car turned out to be the most difficult part of the entire process.

    Tacks made.

Crossmember welded up. Later on, I will add a doubler plate to tie the square tubing to the back of the center section.

For the driveshaft, I'll be running a CF single piece from DSS. Frank at DSS made me an offer for the CF shaft as consolation for some issues I had had on a prior transaction with his shop.
Once I provided him with the DS length, he had it to my door in less than 2 weeks. The shaft is 46" long, 3.25" in diameter, and weighs 12 lbs.

Once I mounts the DS, I check it for runout. This is not necessary but certainly does not hurt. I check runout at the front, middle and rear. Max runout I measured was 0.006 - 0.007" which should be fine.

The fitment is tight around the front u-joint. There is about a finger clearance between the shaft and body. I'm sure this is ample clearance but I may still cut the hump pictured below to allow more clearance.

Next up I'll work on the exhaust, starting with headers.

Looking beautiful! (And I love your plan for a large displacement LS motor. I may have to ponder that in lieu of my normal thoughts of a turbo--packaging under e39s is so damn tight...)

I'm guessing you have a hoist to work on? If not, what is your setup to get your car up in the air sufficiently to work under it with nice clearance like that?

A lift would be nice. I'm on jackstands.

    Thanks

I will place an order for exhaust tubing so hopefully I can start on that this coming weekend. The headers will be tri-y (4-2-1) and either mid or full length. I'm staying away from full 4-1 headers for the sake of clearance including ground clearance. I'd prefer the headers not hang below the frame rail. Past the headers will be dual 2.5" pipes with cats and an X-pipe at the fuel tank. I have yet to decide what to do for the mufflers.

I would imagine if it is possible to do 4 into 1 and still not hang below frame rail on e36, then on e39 it should be even easier

If fabricating a full length 4-1 header, the 4 runners would end-up in the area directly underneath the floor board. The distance from the floor board heat shield to the bottom of the rail is 3.25". If you stack two 1.75" tubes in there, they will hang below the frame. My car is not that low tubing sticking below the frame rail will not necessarily scrape but I know that is all I would see looking under my car and it would drive me insane. I'm ok sacrificing a few ponies for ideal fitment.

Thanks. The 2 pc has been partially parted out. The aluminum rear section and the transmission yoke were sold to be used on a Miata 5.3/T56 swap.
I will put up the mid yoke for sale on an offroad forum. That yoke is commonly used on front driveshafts and intermediate shafts on crawlers.

No idea but if I was to guess I'd say 50A to 60A.
It has a hollow center and does have some give to it. It is comparable to the stock GM T56 mount.
