It usually flips sides because it encounters resistance like you would at the end of a tape. Due to the gearing inside. I had the same problem with mine that was connected to a 3.5mm jack input and fixed it. If you are using a cassette adapter with a cable do this:
Pry the cassette adapter apart at the seam like a clam. Remove the gears inside that interconnect the 2 spindles together. This relieves any tension from the gears inside and make sure the spindles now spin freely. Put halves back together and use small pieces of scotch tape to wrap across the edges to secure it.
