Hi guys. First I'd like to say thanks for this great source of information. You're all doing a great job sharing your knowledge. I did a job on my workmates 320i E91 2006/08. The mechanics at BMW stated that the cam chain was stretched and was in need of changing. (The engine light was on and therefor he drove it to the mechanics) Said and done, I changed it after all the rules in the book. New chain, guides and tensioner. All required tools was used. When new chain was fitted I manually cranked it 4 revs and fitted all tools again to make sure it was correct. I had to turn the exhaust cam shaft a bit (while the vvt stood still) to reach the end point, but I recon that's just because the lack of oil pressure that usually places the vvt's in the right place when turning of the engine. I drove the car for about 15km and no problems. But the next day he went to pick the car up from my garage and the engine light came on almost immediately. I then installed INPA and got this reading: image-4227166189.jpg I then erased it and only one of them remained. At least while just idling. image-3842826312.jpg Here are some readings I collected from INPA: image-2789822280.jpg image-1520844269.jpg image-1405185412.jpg image-3637212824.jpg image-2617594289.jpg image-823538251.jpg During this procedure I haven't even touched the vvt motor. Anyone got any ideas how to proceed in this matter?

The eccentric shaft is for the valve tronic. If you touched the eccentric shaft you have to have the vehicle relearn the mechanical stops. You should be able to do that with inpa I think. Hope this helps.

Apologies to reopen such an old thread but was the 2A61 fault ever resolved? I have the exact same issue on my 2006 118i and have been trying to resolve for over 12 months. VVT motor is new and car drives really well for around two weeks before the 2A61 error pops up. I then have to clear adaptations and relearn VVT end stops before the 2A61 error can be cleared. Car is then back to full performance for another 2 weeks or so. Thanks in advance, Steve.
