    to pick things back up

i started to replace the dizzy cap

    old one

    new one

    .

a new rotor was istalled as well. not sure how i didnt take pics...

then i went along and installed a mechanical fuel press gauge

easily visible when looking in the engine bay

now it was time to tackle the brakes!

    started with the rears

during the process, i saw that my differential speed sensor wires were broken. i proceeded to fix this as well with a new plug i acquired from the junk yard

had this in the garage and new i was going to needed it

removed the parts and started to install the new calipers and rotors and using a power bleeder to help me out

then proceeded to the fronts: as you can see the rotors were really REALLY RUSTED from just one year working on this car. last year was bad but was still shiny on the pad surface.

front parts are now installed and ready to bleed!

i figured since i cleaned the fender liners and installed new brake parts i should clean the inside of my wheels one time too!

solution came from the dollar store for 1 Buck!

used is light scrubber and it seemed to do the trick!

took wheels to get some new tires as the are now dry rotted. grey wheel has a new 265/35/18 tire i will use as well

    another round of cleaning

cleaned and installed a spare mpar

and now they are all on and car is on the ground

next is to take car to exhaust shop by tomorrow. so far the quotes has been around 1k which is expected but some shop quoting 1.5k and i think they are price gouging. after exhaust is done the tuning begins!

That's interesting, I wonder if you have a blockage somewhere. They still bled successfully, though?

On both of my M5s, I did not have an issue like that. I will say that the F30 Brembos (bought used) on my car took more bleeding than I'm used to with single piston calipers, but I suppose that makes sense, too.

could be the case. the car stop as it should so i need to a drive around to confirm its really good

car went off to the exhaust shop on tuesday and should have the car back friday night! here is a few snapped pics. bumper was removed to get on tow bed. also it seems i will be need to raise intercooler a bit

basing on all the nice nissan that were there. this place must be good right?

there will be a few things extra he will be doing and the list is as follow

    1. weld a negative terminal onto shock tower to have a negative post for jumping car

    2. weld door reinforcement plate on drivers door

    3. weld on brackets for the m5 side skirts to be installed better

    4. weld a pressure nipple to the radiator

    5. possibly weld a stud to block for extra engine ground

    6. weld a stud to cylinder head for secure grounding for spark plugs

lets see how it all turns out!

Cleaning up nicely! What are your plans for the exhaust? It looks like you're being thorough in sorting the car out, making it reliable, attending to the little functional details that don't show on a spec sheet. Good stuff! But welding studs? What's wrong with just threading them?

this is what i was thinking for exhaust. i made a quick diagram into autocad

only reason i wanted a stud welded to block is because the motor mount that hold the ground on the b35 passenger side is broken. i wanted to ensure i was getting a good ground. i later thought it wouldnt be a good idea since cast iron steal is poorus and it would be hard for the stud to work. so i will find other means to do this. now im thinking. there sould be an extra threaded area on the block on that side i could use. will look into this

as for the cylinder head i wanted to to make sre the cylinder head is properly grounded. the block is but not the head. i also am just thinking of running a ground from the chassis to the threaded rods of the valve cover which will work the same.

maybe your right. no need to weld studs anywhere

I've had good results using battery protector spray on top of cleaned with solvent, filed/sanded, and cleaned again ground connections.

    Why the second exhaust cutout?

    Looks really really great!

I'm also very appreciative of your attention to detail, laying out your exhaust in CAD. Did the shop scoff at the level of detail you've provided? I'm curious if they'd see it as 'backseat driving' their creativity.

When are you thinking you'll have it out on the open road tearing it up?

The second one was implemented to preven any exhasut flow back in the system.

I talked it over with my guys at work and they said thats a good idea but if one fails the exhaust would get trapped. Which i knew but. Consider these said main in china i went with just one now lol removed the one from the end of system

They said this prolly the best thing they have ever seen a customer do. Leave no room for error when customer isnt around etc. They were actually appreciative!

As soo as it returns by monday i will start setting up the base map for idle and start having car roll into boost etc. I was gonna have a shop do this but the guy has been non responsive these last 2 months....

    Then ill post some videos!

You telling them what to do removes their responsibility for correctly doing something incorrect.

Exhaust back flow? Never heard of such a thing, and anyway the first one would prevent any flow. The two are redundant.

so i will update you guys later on tuning a a good drive

it idles fine but misfires underload. and i have all new ignition parts. so im guessing its the tune im using (base map) or some thing in ignition isnt right

in the mean time i ordered parts for wasted spark.

Looking good, and a clean install. I'd be nervous about that taped wiring harness right next to the hot side and downpipe, though. Even if one rich WOT run too many doesn't turn those wires into a Dali painting, over time the insulation will bake hard and brittle, and start cracking from its own weight and the car's vibrations. The result is iffy and then completely broken wires, and occasionally shorts. I'd move it as far as possible and add some heat shields, maybe even lengthen and rerout.

yea i said the same thing when i took the pic. i will firs wrap the down pipe with header wrap i bought, and try to relocate the harness upwards a bit

i also bought a timing light and will learn how to use one of these today!!!!

i forgot to update this thread and here i am.

i towed the car to the tuner 2 weeks ago

the car made the 2.5b hrs trip with out falling off or being jacked knifed!

unloaded the car and drove it up to the shop and talked to the tuner with the details

i heard back yesterday that the tuner had trouble chasing a cylinder 1 misfire for 1 week. and some how the ps started to leak and it seems to be where the reservoir. not sure as im not there. so there is not much of an udate until these get fixed or sorted.

so hopefully my next updated will be good news

i have no idea what it could be since all ignition parts are new unless the fuel injector took a dump. we will see

update. (Dont know if pics are working. let me know if it isnt. most of pics are blank all of a sudden)

no one could figure the misfire issue. so i had to pick up the car and investigate myself

    got it picked up!

got the car home and started to dig in

considering the spark plugs, plug wires, cap and rotor was new and ignition coil was new. i started with the injectors and low and behold what i found

the harness plug for injector 1 had a crack in it and it didn't seat on the injector properly. i fixed it to and and it starts up! with no misfire.

i was able to drive it around and it build boost pretty quick!. it crept to 7psi and popped a coupler of the charge pipe. i secured the coupler and this didn't happen again

i talked the power stearing leak the car had, re secured the electric fan, adjusted the bracket for the throttle cable. some small stuff

while the car is here, i decided to install an E-85 flex fuel sensor. planning on running an e-mix now. also added a turbosmart boost controller. no pics if these installed. i will get some later

before i return to the turner. i will change out the differential bushings to poly as well as the subframe. on bosst the cars diff hits the chassis and i cant have that when i start launching this thing

ill have pics of that during the weekend. once i learn how to post you tube videos ill post vids up soon.

so far i am very happy with the cars performance

    till next time!

    thanks guys!!!

i knew it was something simple[ but an unordinary cause of an misfire.

its been a long 3.5 years. and just a few tweaks to make it a daily driver again like before. with new paint and a spooly boi lol
