    Slow SRS Light

I think I have a problem not previously on this forum. (At least I couldn't find it.)

After starting, my SRS light stays on for about 3-5 minutes, regardless of whether it's being driven or standing still. If I turn the car off and immediately start again, the light comes back on. My B800 SRS reset tool got an "E" error message and I couldn't get a fault code. Any ideas?

It is just an old car that has slowed down a bit - much like most of us...

Mine does the exact same thing. Stays on for about two minutes after every start then goes off. Started a few months ago.

I had this issue only after removing wheel with battery connected. My Peake is able to reset it. Was told to me that it is an SRS error that has taken place but the system is still functional it's just indicating that a possible issue still exists
    While you're down there ...

some info from my collection, not all E31 related:

    http://www.europeantransmissions.com...odes%20BMW.pdf
SRS light stays on 2-5 minutes:
If you look at service bulletin 720496 you'll see it. It's caused by a broken or damaged circuit board in either the drivers side seat belt latch or the passengers side. If you have code 24 its the drivers side if you have fault code 25 its the passenger side, either way it goes into the default mode which is to trigger both bags in the event of an accident. IF the system is functioning normally then the seat belt sensors detect if you have a passenger in the car and will turn that bag on or off which would save some money if nobodies on that side then you don't need to trigger the passenger bag.

It affects all models with the ZAE airbag system, E34, E36, E38, E31 as of production date 3/94
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
such a fault must of course be repaired first and then the SRS light can be reset permanently.

    new updated one from 1997
SUBJECT Seat Belt Buckle Switch, SRS Fault Codes 16/17 or 24/25 MODEL 3 Series (E36), 5 Series (E39), 7 Series (E38) produced up to 09/97 (E34 not mentioned)

    Which built year?
    My Cars:bmw 850i
    Which scanner do you use?
If built year is before 1994, the Peake as well as the cheapo B800 scanner from China will not work, see Peake FAQ
"Does Peake Research make an SRS/Airbag tool for BMWs built prior to 1994? Unfortunately, we do not offer an SRS tool for BMWs made prior to 1994."
dudu850 has a 1990 850 and he made it with my reset tool, read here http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...mexx-SIR3-tool

Rebooting this thread as I have an issue on my 94 Touring.

The SRS light is on for 1-2 minutes on each journey, irrespective of whether the passenger (RHD) seat is occupied or not.

I have scanned with my NT530 and INPA - both return no errors on the Airbag ECU.

Would the buckles still be the first thing to look at? Or could the problem be elsewhere?

    thanks in advance

Thanks shogun - you think this even if no errors flagged?

re seat belt latch - is it a straightforward swap from mechanical to the post 97 design?

sorry, never done that, no own experience. Better make a new thread in the E34 forum and E34 experts will chime in.
