So i had known the cargo cover could be setup as a cargo/dog barrier but never actually tried it until today, had some time screwin around in the garage and cleaning up the cargo area so i tossed it in.
I actually totally didn't realize how the clips at the base of the backseat worked for that - the guy selling the car to me insisted those were for a childseat option and i never dug into it OR tried the cargo setup until now. Obv he was fullachit. Pretty cool deal. Not having a dog at the moment i prob wont use it, but hell maybe if i load up the back with small boxes to the roof or something... Cool to have the option...

I used it on a trip from nj to georgia with an 80lb pit bull in the back(he was a rescue). While passing through maryland the song "jump around" came on pandora and the dog started flipping out.... needless to say we stopped at a walmart and picked up a crate for him lol
It's true, pit pulls are famously into Everlast. Even that Whitey Ford blues stuff.

Thanks for sharing this; I had no idea that this is what those mounts on the seat were for. I knew the net went up with the cargo cover in its regular position, but I never knew it could be mounted here!

It's also just a good place to store the cross bar when you are hauling with the seats down.

The net is very reassuring when you are carrying cargo. You aren't going to be decapitated during a panic stop. I carried about 20 car loads during a move, primarily the fragile items, and there was always a large picture laying flat on top, poised like a guillotine blade.
LOL. My SiL is a nervous nelly crazy paranoid safety type and always insists cargo cover is on in her cars becuz "what if you had scissors in the way back and hit the brakes and they shot up to the front!"
Showed the wife the net last night and her first response was "SCISSOR PROTECTOR!"

hopefully the struts don't fail while he's peeking out the window.
I never knew...Thanks
God i wish my wagon came with that. Doesnt have the net, just the black tarp. I made a barrier that hooks up to the rear headrests out of pcv to keep my pups in the back and off the leather.
Where can you purchase this option besides the dealer? I also need the rear cargo cover.... Sucks that I can't really leave anything in the back when I park the car.

Are you sure yours doesn't have it? I owned my car for a year before 'discovering" it. I pulled the net out and a metric sh*t ton of dog hair came out with it. Quite a surprise. I cleaned it up, but never use it. Took me even longer to figure out that it could be used in front of the rear seats too. I always wondered what the hooks in the headliner were for.
Hi,
I 'semi' regularly send E39 Touring load covers to members in the USA/Canada. They're 'relatively' cheap here in the UK and postage/shipping isn't as much as you'd expect. The last two I had went a couple months ago, so if any of you guys need one, I'd be happy to source one and send it over. Just do keep in mind that they won't be perfect and will have signs of use/aging etc. The only one I have in my E39 goodies shed is one which doesn't have the dog guard pull out - just the load area cover bit. I thought that a little weird in terms of a configuration !
Cheers, Dennis!
LOL.
As recommended above I've started using the bracket as the bar storage when hauling stuff (like my set of new Fikse's after getting PSS mounted the other day for the M3 nomnomnom) and its really great - huge improvement. Nobody can ride in backseat with it in but its really tidy way to deal w/ that PITA thing and not have to stick it in the garage or anything. That benefit goes for whether you have the dog net or not.

I just picked up a used one on eBay for 125 shipped. I would think that's a fair price for used sets.

Hi
I've seen some really good condition ones at around £45 or so quite often, thats currently around $75 USD. I've shipped a number of them over to the USA and Canada now to Touring owners looking for them. Shipping usually comes in at around $80-90 USD as rates sometimes fluctuate.
The cheaper load covers usually start to then have more signs of use and some are quite manky. I tend to avoid those and keep to the better condition ones.
Cheers, Dennis!
Picked up a ton of stuff earlier today and utilized it. Felt nice having the security that I wasn't going to get smacked in the back of the head if I had to brake hard.
Quick question before I decide to get a cargo cover - Does the retractor part of the cargo cover actually touch the back of the rear seats?
The reason I ask is because I have my sons car seat in the car and the tether strap goes over the top of the seat and hooks to the floor in the cargo area. I just want to make absolute sure it will work cause I swap car seats between cars pretty regularly.
Thanks.
