Im thinking of leaving those for now, but i really need to replace #7 in the diagram as its making alot of noise. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=33_0187
Whats involved in replacing those bushings?
Thanks
#7 is for an e12 platformed car up through 5/82 when the new model year came out. It is pre mounted in a bolt on casing where on the e28 cars the housing is integral with the subframe. You have to figure out how to press it out yourself or tear the whole subframe down to take it to a shop. Many articles written on this nasty job.

The E30 below is my mate's. He's doing it tough at the moment (health wise) and it's in for a clean and tidy up. Runs the 3.0 litre E46 M3 engine and goes like the clappers.

The articles I am referring to are in regard to replacing the bushings on an E28 car. Part #7 you referred to is the whole bushing mounted in it's own carrier. Installation is a direct bolt on . Look at the realoem diagram closer. Unless your car has been converted to a later subframe, your mechanic is out there.

Brian at VAC Motorsports packaged and sent parts today. Expecting the parts through customs in 2 weeks time for a 2 week build.

Parts are in the country from VAC. While I await customs clearance we are working on pulling the car up once it has 370hp plus.
To do so I first took a look at the big brake bible for my 17" wheels (see below). It looks like the largest I can go is 840 calipers at 324mm by 30mm. I found on line (and have now bought) 6 piston front calipers from a 135i. They go with a 338mm by 28mm disk.
My mechanic has measured the E30 currently stored under my car and found that it runs 330mm big Brembo's on 17" wheels with a little wiggle room to spare. So we will risk the additional 8mm in diameter. That is in all fairness only 4mm each side of the hub.
I'll let you know if they fit. We can also downgrade to an E46 M3 325mm by 30mm disk if need be.

I run 840 4-piston Brembos on my e24 with 16" BBS RS wheels, fits perfect:
IMG_2601_resize.jpg
the pads are correct size for the rotors, maybe got the wrong brake discs, ordered them from brembo according to their catalogue![]()
Do you think I can fit 345mm on with 17 inch wheels? Might get an old used Brembo disc and check. BMW makes a brilliant 345mm E46 CSL disc that works with the 135i 6 piston caliper. The 840 brakes do fit a 16" wheel. Just wondering if the 850 dimensions will fit the 17" I run.

Are you making custom brackets to mount the calipers? Maybe I missed something but I believe you will also have to change the hydraulics to work with the newer calipers due to the early original system being a dual section system on the front calipers.
What are the piston sizes on the 6 piston calipers and do they match up to the piston area of the original calipers?
Will have brackets fabricated and yes, do need to change old twin system over. Calipers are picked up Thursday night so will measure post then.
Cams and valve kit with mechanic and off with head to machinist today. Awaiting valve stem seals from VAC to put it all together.

There is another shop called the metric Mechanic. I got my b35 head from them. Awesome shop.

All parts were already ordered through VAC. Awaiting a late shipment for the gasket set.

They built a custom b35 head for me for a grand. It's pretty nice.
It's no S38 but once she's running it will be pretty trick!!
Oh my goodness. Almost too good to use. Bigger valves??

Yep and custom cc'd chambers.
What do the 'gills' in the chambers do?

Surface turbulence according to the builder, better fuel atomization, cleaner burn and increases detonation resistance.
20 % flow increase over the stock B35 head. This is however a custom turbo head built to flow 600hp at 7500rpm on a GT 45 ball bearing turbo.
Custom ground cam.
Basically the balls. But, still no S38😕
Flows like one but a 1/3 the price.
Please continue posting pics of your beut ride.

6 piston. They are easily twice the size of my current brakes, with twice the pad area.
