Car drives great with the 17 inch wheels. 17x225. Really holds the road well and a huge leap over 14x195. Scrub fronts just a little at full lock but never been an issue and only absolute full lock. Changes the road holding completely. Note that I run Bilstein Sports Shocks and my springs are 40mm lower and 40% stiffer. You may have no issues what so ever if your spring/shock setup is stock. The scrubbing is so minor it has never marked the wheels and only buffed the rear of the front wheel arches over a very small area, like 20mm by 50mm missing a little under-body tar.

More photos and vids to come. Want to dyno the car to get engine tune right.

Was always slow on the updates as the car was 850kms away in another state. Now she is home I can play, photo and vid far more.

Have to agree with that early front valance. Though that single rear drain pipe detracts from the car's line. I've had many setups on my e 24. The best look for the car I think was a dual off-centered 3 inch pipes to followthe angle of the rear lower valance.
Love your car, I had to settle for a low compression ugly US bumper US variant of the 86csi. I blew that engine test fitting a top mounted turbo set up for a built engine. Still building. She is waiting.
Looking forward to video of your car.

It seems a car is never finished. Fixing the rear boots on the e28 rear subframe I never needed. Not a surprise that the crap mechanic that said it was needed (and it wasn't) did not ask me if I wanted the boots replaced as they were cracked. What sort of mechanic negligently advises you and then when sourcing second hand parts, fails to check their condition? Now that everything is in, it will cost far more. They could have been replaced in minutes when everything was disassembled.

They are cracked and can be easily inspected. One has split throwing grease under the car and over the exhaust. All are badly cracked and can easily be seen without stretching or touching them. Really badly split and aged. BMW Australia wanted $180 each. I bought the set of 4 made in Italy for around $100.

boots fixed. onto the oil and hydraulic fluid leaks.

The oil leak is very. About 100ml a day with engine off. It appears to be the timing chain cover.

Nope, that's the sump gasket leaking I reckon.

We checked the sump gasket. It appears fine. The timing chain cover dribbles onto the sump and sway bar and you can see it happening. But, to replace the timing chain cover gasket, which we can see but appears missing in places, we need to drop the front subframe and sump anyway. I have a new sump gasket to go back in as we re-assemble. So the sump, if it is an issue, will have a new gasket automatically.

Not a small job. Best to keep oil in the engine though I suppose.

Rear boots fixed. Will need to temp wrap that exhaust however or cook the boot.

Now this is the cause of the hydraulic leak. The ex crappy mechanic's hooking up of the power steering, with an aluminium air conditioning pipe that the idiot bent by hand, seriously!! WTF?????!!! Aluminium fatigues if you bend it. Note the wonderful crimping as the lazy sod bent it. It cracked when he bent it costing me more money. The bill for his shoddy negligent work keeps adding up.

    20160618_095207_zps9wa54k92.jpg

The last two photos are the fixed hydraulic pipe. New, equal radius bends without crimping, aircraft aluminium with perfect welds. Compared to the absolute crap above you can tell the difference between a competent BMW specialist and a back yard hack.

The timing chain cover is back on with a new gasket. The old gasket was torn and leaking oil so must have also been a source for a vacuum leak. Start up Monday and will test car again next week. Hopefully this one gasket was the source of the vacuum leak. If not we'll need to chase it down.

Time to crank up the power. I've decided to undertake the following and the order for parts is on its way.

CATCAM 293/279 camshaft upgrade. See here: http://www.catcams.co.uk/acatalog/BM...v_Engines.html

High Performance valve kit that includes high strength springs, spring seats, steel alloy retainers.

    High Performance valves.

Megasquirt MS3-PRO engine management system with wiring loom. See here: http://www.ms3pro.com/

The head is off and old valves out. Head is being decked and checked now.

3.73 LSD sent off today to specialist for sand blasting, painting and new seals and fluids.

Haha you have had it done 5min and upgrading. Sounds like a good plan. It's a good sized set of cams but u will need to confirm with your engine guy that you don't run into Piston to valve clerance. Also it's wise to consider slotting the cam wheels. Ultimately josh u will need to give your engine as much compression as you can to feed the bigger cams. Mid to high 11's is the number. Also consider using a thin spec cometic MLS rather than skimming the meat out of the head to gain the comp u need.

Fitting diff now. Some modification needed as the rear top mount in the medium case diff was located centrally but the large case mount is offset to the left.

Should be bolted up this week. And Dave, mechanic says the diff has been refurbished. We'll change the fluids but apparently the seals are new. Will also get it cleaned up.

The megasquirt MS3-PRO is ordered and in the post. Hopefully the camshaft and running gear is ordered by mid week. 3-4 weeks to fab the camshaft then send it back to Aus.

Nice, i noticed you have replaced your rear trailing arm bushings. What did you use? and are they difficult to replace?

Here are the best you can get. https://www.powerflex.co.uk/black-se...%29-803/1.html

Bearings and bushes. Two of the hardest things to replace on a car. Just youtube it, you'll find plenty of methodologies and pick the best one for you. But very hard work.

Thanks, my shop tech said he would have to take down the entire rear suspension/frame, he quoted $900 in labor, which is outrageous.

Sounds about right, though. I don't see a better way to do it than to drop the rear axle carrier.

    Alex

All cars are money pits, it's just that some people love theirs more than others.

Yeah, I have a mate here in Australia who was quoted $900 for the same work. So I'm agreeing with Alex. $900 is about the commercial labour cost. Try youtube.
