Well, as it turns out the whole motor came a cropper from scarffed piston skirts to damaged crank journals rod throws etc I just sent a piston out to a very small highly regarded piston manufacturer for a quote and then the block will require complete re machining. I think knowing you is a curse as I am following in your footsteps!! LOL Hopefully it will turn out as well as yours has

I'm not there yet, but persistence is king. I won't let it beat me. One way or another this car will be finished and have a good dose of awesome with it.

Keep going Bert, that car of yours will be a rocket when finished.

Comparable or faster than an E92 M3? That is a fantastic expected outcome, did you do anything in the drivetrain to enhance the American styled soft suspension?

The car runs bilstein sports shocks and springs 40mm lower and 40% stiffer. Eventually she'll get upgraded to something higher performance.

We should be doing the power dyno runs in early November as my ECU guy is not free before hand. Next week we'll do a second road auto-tune on the highway where we can sit at 110km/h for a while and tune a few more gears in with the relevant AF ratios.

Hpw about an early Sunday-morning run on the Autobahn near you? Find a spot with low cop activity and you should be able to do a few pulls to tune it.

The best I can do is 110km/h speed zone. No autobahns in Australia and the unlimited Northern Territory speed limit, about 30min south of Darwin was removed years ago. But we can do a lot of work in 1st to 4th up to around 110km/h.

Been quiet for a while. Photos explain why. Was not me!!! Could not post before now as was too heart broken. $28.5k damage. All insured and with repairer now. Most parts should be in with the repairer. I'd expect I'm 6 weeks out from back on the road.

Heart broken does not begin to describe this, and I don't have the time in that you all do.
Hope you have awesome repair personnel.

    It has been tough.

The good news is that the specialist repairer will bring the nose of the 6'er, at least, back to concourse. Additionally the engine is fine and was not touched and the chassis is straight. The very forward most cross member was pushed up and will be replaced. The oiler cooler is now a banana and the radiator fan was just pushed into the radiator. The car was driven back to the auto electricians in the state you see it above with no engine issues.

I have given the smash repairer my M635CSi spoiler to replace the front valance and bumper. The front valance on these early 633CSi's really looked like it was missing its chin. The spoiler which I gave into the repair for free (cost me $900 some 10 years ago) should give the car a far more aggressive look. See spoiler photos. The spoiler and front bumper are all one piece where as the old valance sat under the front bumper.

Holy moley mate, what the hell happened?

I'm very sorry to see that Josh. I'd be gutted too. Absolutely gutted.

Hey... car looks pretty damn good otherwise!!!

Take your time pal, don't need to answer straight away!

    Hey Ellis,

We should catch up for a beer in a few months, maybe another brunch. Must be 4 years since we last saw the 6'er gang. Would be a good place to tell the tale.

It was simply a friends brain fade. Heart breaking but you don't lose friendships over cars. He's still more heart broken than I, and I was in shock and stunned for a week. We were about to high five and call the dyno guy and wham.

Car is stripped and ready for painting and assembly. Addam Smith has confirmed that he's talked to the smash repairers re the missing items, all to do with getting the new spoiler to work. So should all be good. Addam is such a great resource for parts and an all round decent guy.

The good news is that once it is ready, we go straight to rolling road dyno for the power runs. Need to secure the period correct recarros to the floor and M-Tech steering wheel in to replace the timber wheel, that should honestly be in someone's E9 or E3, or possibly early 911. Then I'll drive her for a while prior to doing some upholstering late in the year. I'll leave the 6 speed for later. I just want to drive it.

Oh, and Pip Barker is going to do some big 370mm dia brakes for it. His got a system for 17 inch wheels that fits brakes that size in. Given she has 540 rears and old 280mm dia e12 fronts, we think the brake mod is a safety must. I'll drive it down to Batemans Bay (we have a van site in South Durras) and do a swap with him. He's about 2 hrs further south, in the Bega area.

If you ever feel like taking your 6'er for a long drive, call or sms. We're down the van every second weekend or so and we're about 10 mins up the road from Batemans Bay. Hammer the highway, I'll do the BBQ, you can trade tattoo stories with Rosie and marvel at the fact Isaac is nearly 8, and we can have a good chinwag.

    Good to hear from you.

    Josh

Yes mate, it is what it is. Bad decisions make good stories.

Reminds me of when I crashed my old green car, 25 years ago.

Totally my fault, ran up the back of a station wagon at a set of lights. No-one got hurt but I damaged their car, so how completely & utterly annoying & inconvenient for those poor people.

A beer & catchup would be good, maybe in a couple of months. I've ordered a new daily driver and its taking a bit of time to get here. It's slightly performance oriented so I'll be keen to give it a run down & up the Clyde once I get the thing.

Isaac's 8! Wow. I'll bet the little bugger is taller than me too.

A couple of months sounds great. Been too long away from a chin-wag. Looking forward to seeing what the daily is. Stay safe.

Car has now moved into the full repair section of the smash repairers. Still chasing front bumper bar chrome, rubbers and brackets but otherwise car now well on its way. I've given up on timeframes but hoping we are near complete sometime in April?

Finally coming back together. I'm missing a front grill, the oil cooler (need to chase down the type/model/brand), radiator, one front grill and the front bumper dressings (chrome and rubber) but otherwise as you can see she is ready to roll.

    Now to chase some parts!

Wizard Cooling makes a good all-aluminum setup. Not sure how ugly it would be to get it to Aus would be but...

I believe the oil cooler from an E30 is the same or close enough to it in size. Worse case scenario you will have to have new hoses made. Call Addam

They are fabricating an oil cooler from scratch. The old radiator has been pressure tested post a repair.

Hopefully some photos in the next day or so. Getting closer.
