new 633csi owner need quick advice on wheel size

I just bought a 1980 633csi. Love the car its my first 6 but I've had an e46 and an e36 before. I've read up on several of the wheel/ tire fitment threads but non could give me my direct answer I needed. I have the opportunity to buy some 7 series wheels with 235/60r16 on them. Can anyone tell me if these will fit my car. I already have some pretty hefty spacers on the car, not sure of the size but they are relatively wide. I need to make a decision asap that's why this is important thank you in advance.

If you are talking E23 7 series, the answer is yes. E32 or E38 7 series, yes with hub centric spacers. You can direct bolt any wheel with a center bore of 72.5mm (E23,24,28) You can bolt any E31,E32,E34,E38 or E39(bore size 74.1) with hub centric spacers. Keep in mind, you should use a wheel with an ET20 offset. You can go ET15 to ET25. Might have to use spacers. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

You can make the wheels fit but those tires are too tall. I have 7x16 front and 8x16 rear wheels on my car with 205R55x16 front and 225R50x16 rear tires.

I too have a 1980. I replaced my stock 14 inchers with some style 5 E39 wheels a few months ago. Shod with 225/50/16 tires and no lowering. It looks really good with little to no gaps from tire to car you get sometimes with rim changes.

Thanks for the advice. I will see tommorow if the rims will fit or not with those tires, the spacers I have on now are about 26mm.

Digging back through old threads as I try to get back into an old project -- my '84 633. Years ago I bought some style 5s. They're wearing old rubber 235/60/16 tires, which I believe fit the back, but not the front. Looks like from FireDevlin's old post above that I'd be good with 225/50/16 all around... if they fit those rims. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

In the links and information part of the forum there is a wheel and tire section that has a lot of great information.
Style 5 wheels are only available in 17 inch.

225/50-16 is the usual replacement size to update from the original TRX metric or earlier 14 in wheel.

On most 6er's, 225/55-16 will work, a little big from the size comparison charts, but will correct our some what optimistic speedometer, just throwing off the odometer.

I have the /55's on my M6 and used them on the 87 635CSi. I am not sure of fitment on a series 1 chassis.

Is that a direct swap or do you need new spacers? I just got a 1980 633 looking for 16 or 17" style 5s.

This was a direct swap. Wheels are 17" 5x120 with the 20mm offset. Rubber probably needs to be a thinner profile but wheels fit no issue and look good. 18" looks like an old wild west carriage!

The RC090 is what I'm looking for, that specifies the deep lip right (off an E39?). From what I gather style 5 applies to an array of basket weave variations depending on original model. There's a set of 4 with tires on ebay but they staggered 17/8 & 17/9, other than these wheels and maybe a bumper conversion with air dam I want to keep this as original and gentlemanly as possible.

Until I installed the Racing Dynamics RGP's on mine, I was running stock e38 16x8 rims (the ones they call Style 5's but not the multi piece 5's like the E39 sport...) fitted with e39 tires (225/50/16's IIRC). It ran nice with that combo.....

    The RGP's were 8.5x17's et 13.5 with 235/45-17's

edit: don't mind the potato cam pics

    Hi adm750,

Just got my style 5s (16 x8) single piece from a 94 7401 and am trying to sort out what spacers I my need. What offset are you using for your 633?

    Thanks.

About to buy tires for mine (project is coming back online). What offset do your rims have? Mine are 23 and I'm curious about spacers too.
