I received this letter about my '04 330 ci conv. "We do not have the parts at this time". Thanks so much for letting me know it is unsafe for people to ride with me. And, who knows when you will be able to fix it. Bon chance!!!
I just got the letter stating they were not available last week. Does that mean they are sending new letters out this week?
Probably not. Soon, though. I think they're sending out the first wave of "Parts are in" letters out 9/25. We haven't gotten anyone in yet that came in because they got a letter, just cars that were coming in for other stuff and we're doing them since we have parts.

Last time the e46 had a recall (brake lights) I received two separate letters. The first told me that a recall was issued and that a second letter would follow when parts were available so that I could schedule an appointment. Second letter came about a month or two later telling me to make an appointment.
I still haven't done that other recall all the BMW dealers are so far away from me. However since this one is way more serious, I'll just have to leave work to make it happen.
So is this a second recall? I got mine replaced I think back in February about this.
I purchased my E46 used about a month ago, will previous owner get letter or me?

I heard they are releasing the parts in stages. I have an 05 and bmwusa customer service expects end of year. Anyone here with a june 2005 build or later get their airbag replaced yet?

Just got email saying that I'll be notified in writing when the parts are available.
BMW just norified us (dealers) that they are out of airbags, but will have stock coming in over the next few weeks, so they weill be able to fill orders as long as dealers order 5 or less per day. So I'd recommend calling the dealer to see if they have any stock that isn't reserved for vehicles, and if not, make an appointment so they can order one specificaly for you and then have them call you when it comes in. Expect to wait a couple/few weeks before recieving that call.
I have not yet been notified that there are parts.
Breaking news: BMW NA is expanding its recall of the driver's airbag in certain E46 cars. The cars affected by this "voluntary improvement campaign" include 140,000 cars produced between January 2004 and August 2006.

Just logged into the BMW site for recall info and they're still saying "remedy not available"
I still haven't gotten the follow-up letter.
I received my letter a few weeks ago, took my car and dropped it off. BMW of Chapel Hill fixed it, no problem whatsoever
booked mine in today, they have ordered the part said it will take a month to arrive
This is so weird. The recall notice on BMW USA still says "remedy not yet available"
getting mine fixed today
if you post your VIN (last 7 digits) number, I can tell you if your E46 is affected . .
