    2004 645Ci has security light on after engine swap now.

    Buddy of mine had a 2004 BMW 645Ci towed to his shop. The customer had a used engine put in it and now the motor will not crank. As soon as you put the key in the ignition, you get the big yellow key like the security system (EWS?) is tripped. He called me up asking me if I knew anything about the car and I don't know much about the E63's. It has the N62B44 motor in it.

    Any ideas or suggestions?

    It can be from the battery being off for so long. There is step to take, you will need all the keys, and the owner's manual to walk you thru the steps of it. I cannot remember every step but it is something like this: Lock and unlock the car 3 times, put the key in the ignition and attempt to start. I think I am missing something, so have him read the owners manual.

    So your buddy has a friend that has a BMW towed to his shop.. Can't figure out how to fix it and asked you to post up? What's the name of his shop..

    And for what's it's worth I can't ever say I seen a "security light". Help your friend out and post pictures if this "light"

    What I am thinking is the active steering has a fault, that will keep the car from starting.

    Let's put it this way: If a shop swapped engines in a 645, and doesn't have a DIS, or INPA, or ISIS, and has to ask a non-pro buddy to post the problem for them, well, they likely screwed the pooch anyway, and deserve the consequences.

    Sorry, this isn't directed at you - just the non-BMW shop that took a job beyond their expertise. The only fix involves hooking the car to a good BMW diagnostic computer. Unless of course, he's using a key from another car....
