Jeff, I just bought an e39 with a Dynavin unit, and I think it has the older WinCE OS, but i'm no tentirely sure. I will say the current source screen and menu does not look like the pictures you've posted. Are you familiar with any trade in programs or any way I can at least get the latest firmware on my model? I'm not even sure how to tell which model / firmware I have.

If the menus aren't the same it's likely the older D99 unit. I'm not aware of any trade in programs but I'm sure Jeff can chime in to give you more details.

You cant "upgrade" the old units to be like a new unit, they are completely different hardware. Email me a pic of the source selection screen and I can probably tell you what you have. To all you out there reading this in the future.....Dynavin has been around for decade with 6 generations of head units, don't blindly buy something off of ebay not knowing what you are getting, it could be something from 7-8 years ago which in tech terms...is ancient history! Ive been seeing this a lot lately and its a recipe for disappointment.

Sadly, my N6-E39 installed in late 2014 just stopped working a few days ago. The whole screen showed all-white background with a few vertical lines, and had no sound.
Already tried to long-press the SRC button to restart, also disconnected the battery for a few hours and reconnect, didn't change a thing. :-(

Any other idea on what I can try to fix it? My system is N6-E39 with DSP on a 2001 540i.

I have a Dynavin unit that was delivered a couple of days ago. If you have to send it back to Jeff, how difficult is it to take the unit out from the dashboard? And how difficult is it to put it back in?

The issue those guys are referring to was from a batch from 2+ years ago, has nothing to do with current production. If you got yours a couple days ago it does not affect you.

Another thumbs up for Jeff. After a few weeks of back an forth with navi extras, Jeff sent me out a fresh iGoPrimo chip and my navigation is finally back to normal as it fired right up without issue

Did you install it? It is easy to remove if you know where it clips in on the sides (if you don't look for install video to see where). Need to remove dash trim to get to it though.

A Scenario Question,

1998 E39 with DSP, High Cluster, and 4.3 Display. I know I need to run the optional harness to the trunk. Currently my stock radio won't turn on or see the amp. (I am so done chasing this problem) Can I install the Dynavin head unit, run the trunk harness and remove all the hardware from the trunk (amp, radio, cd, nav computer) and wire straight to the speakers from the trunk area or ad an amp and do the same. Just wondering if this is a feasible plan? I guess I will be losing MPG and Range display computations?

Ok, after after spending another half day reading about E39 DSP I believe I can with a "G.A.S. E39 10 channel passive crossover" if I can find one for sale...

So I finally had my Dynavin installed today. Everything has been finished except for the radio antenna which was not hooked up and the backup camera is not yet wired. I was told that there is an adaptor needed to mate my antenna to the antenna connection in the Dynavin unit. The backup camera is installed but not yet wired as the owner/installer wanted to talk to me first before doing any splicing on the wire loom. In the 30 minutes that I played with it, I am totally satisfied with this unit. The unit is snappy, and it sounds better than the oem radio.

I just saw that the navigation software that I have on my newly installed unit is 9.6.13.268494. Below that it says Nov 13, 2012. Does it mean that the map version I have is from Nov 13, 2012? I looked at Naviextras.com and it says the latest version is 2017 Q1. Do I have to pay $79 to get the latest map or are we able to download it for free?

Update: I was able to use the Navi tool to run the update. When I tested the navigation, it still shows the same info as above. Also, I tried playing a movie file. It says that I can not do this when I am driving. I was not driving. I was parked in my garage when I tried it.
