Ok guys. I am back with my car and will be doing some work. I have decided to do some myself as it brings me enourmous pleasure so stay tuned. This thead will be updated so I hope it will bring you also some pleasure along some info. I arrived 2 weeks ago and the first thing was to get the car out of the garage and send the computers to Omega man as he is reprogramming them for me to suit the s70. That guy knows his way around that stuff so I highly recommend him this is how the car was after the whole winter.

I am still waiting for the computers so the baby just sits here and waits

I decided to take the old engine apart while Im whaiting and boy it gave me experience.

How would you say it looks under the covers on the old engine ?

One question. Are those the newer injectors

get a set of new ones from Bill (Max Lumens). They are almost for free
This so called refurbishment of old injectors is BS IMO because all they normally do is an ultrasonic cleaning plus replace the two O-rings and the yellow cap.
If the yet itself is worn out and shows an uneven spray pattern it won't be fixed.

In regards to the heads I can only say that they look pretty clean (thanks to synthetic oil?) but some jerk has used liquid sealer on the VC gaskets.
Check the condition of the drag levers (part #11 33 1 709 063) because they wear. And new ones aren't that expensive unless you get them from BMW directly.

I always put Mineral oil on that engine as the previous owner had also done so and told me it would be better to do so also.
This engine will be not used in any way. Its just for me to have fun taking apart. I will then just put it in storage. Maybe one day it will be needed.

that's total BS regarding not using synthetic oil on engines which ran on mineral oil before.
The idea behind this is that synt. oil cleans and may "open" leaks which have been closed by mineral oil deposits.
This is ok with really old engines (pre WW-II) but not with ours.

    BINGO,,, a very good point,,

Many owners that gets an idea to put some new fully synth, oil on their old engine start to complain why the hell their engine starts to leak like never before,, this is the reason

But regarding the S70 engine,, i think thats a bad idea to put it in to your 850,,

    you know my adresse,,,,,,,,,

Interesting thread -- keep it coming. Do you know how many miles were on the injectors you show above? Are injectors something that should be replaced every X number of miles because they wear (or deteriorate)? Based on what I read on this forum (thanks to all of you), I'm starting a checklist of unusual things that should be checked periodically and considered for repair/replacement.

I was looking at my fuses and saw this. WTH is that and is it related to my swap from auto to manual? It looks like shit and I would want to make it OEM

I'll guess at the starter relay ? Looks to be bypassed. Maybe they couldn't start it after changing your DME's .

The relay was from the starter. We are slowly getting there!!!

yes, thats the starter relay. BMW basically did the same thing at the factory for manual transmission cars, although they installed a jumper that looked like a relay. The main function of that relay is to prevent you from starting the car in any gear but park, which isnt applicable in manual cars. It doesnt even connect to the DME's.

    Thanks guys for that.
    One question.
How do you get that cover off that sits on the radiator?

? The one with 6 plastic fasteners holding it in place? if you look closely you will see 3 triangle marks where it clips into the radiator....pry it up with a small screwdriver at those marks.

The other one. One where the coolant canister connects to. It is over the visco fan
